We are looking for an engaging and resilient Bus Duty Manager to join our busing operation at London Gatwick Airport. This is a pivotal role responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and customer-focused delivery of bus services supporting landside airport operations. Working as part of the Operations team, you will oversee daily service delivery, lead a diverse group of PCV drivers, and coordinate with engineering teams, airport stakeholders, and Times operational colleagues. With anticipated growth linked to the Northern Runway plans, this is an exciting opportunity to join Times at a key moment of expansion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership & People Management
    • Lead, support, and motivate drivers to deliver safe, reliable, and professional services for Times.
    • Conduct team briefings, ensuring staff are informed, compliant, and fit to drive.
    • Provide real-time coaching, guidance, and performance management.
    • Manage HR processes including investigations, disciplinary, and grievance meetings.
    • Support recruitment activity in partnership with Times recruitment teams.
    • Promote a positive team culture built on respect, professionalism, and accountability.
  • Daily Service Delivery
    • Oversee dispatch, regulation, and control of Times bus services throughout the shift.
    • Ensure all duties and routes are staffed, arranging cover for absences or operational gaps.
    • Monitor real-time service performance and take corrective action where required.
    • Liaise with engineering teams to manage vehicle availability and maintenance.
    • Respond dynamically to peaks and airport operational demands.
  • Safety, Compliance & Standards
    • Ensure full compliance with legal requirements, including PCV licensing and drivers hours.
    • Conduct and verify vehicle checks and defect reporting.
    • Promote a strong safety-first culture across the Times operation.
    • Record, report, and escalate incidents, accidents, and near misses.
    • Maintain high standards of vehicle presentation and cleanliness.
  • Incident & Disruption Management
    • Respond promptly to operational incidents and service disruptions.
    • Make timely, risk-aware decisions to protect customers, staff, and Times assets.
    • Communicate clearly with drivers, controllers, and senior leadership.
    • Coordinate contingency plans, diversions, and replacement services.
    • Provide accurate updates to stakeholders.
  • Customer Service
    • Champion a customer-focused approach across the Times busing operation.
    • Support drivers in managing difficult customer situations.
    • Handle and resolve customer enquiries and complaints.
    • Ensure a reliable and comfortable end-to-end customer experience.
  • Resource & Operational Planning
    • Deploy resources flexibly to meet fluctuating demand.
    • Manage rota variations and staffing levels.
    • Contribute to service planning and operational improvements.
    • Deputise for the Transport Manager when required.
  • Reporting & Administration
    • Maintain accurate shift records and performance data.
    • Produce reports following incidents or service disruptions.
    • Assist with operational investigations and audits.
    • Ensure compliance with Times policies and procedures.

About You

  • Essential
    • Strong knowledge of bus operations, drivers hours rules, and legal compliance.
    • Experience managing frontline teams in transport, logistics, or aviation.
    • PCV licence.
    • Full UK Driving Licence.
    • Strong decision-making and organisational skills.
    • Competent in Microsoft Office and operational systems.
    • Knowledge of health and safety protocols.
  • Desirable
    • Experience within an airport or large-scale transport environment.
    • Experience with scheduling or real-time control software.
