The deputy art director works closely with the art director to deliver distinctive layouts and covers for The Times Magazine. They will bring the sections to life with clean, clear and engaging design, and ensure all output remains true to The Times Magazine aesthetics.

Responsibilities

  • Successfully manage a productive relationship with the editor and the art director, Times Magazine and the wider Times Magazine team.
  • Experience of working with photographers and stylists for photoshoots.
  • Design and layout pages and articles for digital and print across all Times Magazine content.
  • Think outside the box and solve problems, bring enthusiasm to your ideas and bring people along with you.
  • Be at the forefront of emerging technologies and design trends in print and digital formats.

Skills and experience

  • Experience working in a senior design position for a national magazine or digital publisher.
  • Expertise using InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Figma and an understanding of HTML.
  • Strong level of expertise in multi-platform design.
  • Demonstrable interest in popular culture and current affairs.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, with ability to communicate effectively.
  • An ability to work under pressure, to tight deadlines and with rigorous accuracy prepared to put in extra time and effort where necessary.
  • Experience working collaboratively with multi-skilled teams.
  • A strong understanding of editorial compliance and regulatory issues.
