We are looking for a dedicated SEN / SEMH Teaching Assistant to join an alternative provision secondary school in Thrapston, supporting students aged 11-16. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who wants to make a genuine difference to the lives of young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The Role
- Supporting students aged 11-16 with a range of SEN and SEMH needs.
- Providing one-to-one and small-group support both inside and outside the classroom.
- Helping students manage their emotions and develop positive behaviours.
- Encouraging students to engage with learning and build confidence.
- Supporting students who may display challenging or dysregulated behaviour.
- Building positive, trusting relationships with students.
- Assisting teachers with classroom activities and learning resources.
- Supporting students with their personal development and social skills.
- Following individual support plans and school policies.
- Working as part of a supportive and committed education team.
- Helping create a safe, calm and positive learning environment.

- You do not necessarily need to have previous Teaching Assistant experience if you have the right attitude, transferable experience and passion for supporting young people.
Training & Career Development
As part of the role, successful candidates will be provided with an opportunity to further develop their qualifications. Once recruited, successful candidates will be placed onto a mandatory Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship. If you already hold a Level 3 qualification, you will instead be supported to progress onto a Level 5 qualification. This makes the role an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career within education and alternative provision.
Salary & Working Hours
£105-£125 per day, depending on experience. Full-time, Term time only, 8:15am-3:30pm, Based in Thrapston, Free on-site parking, Training and professional development provided.

Due to the location of the school, you must be able to drive and have reliable access to transport, unless you live within walking distance of the school.
