We are currently seeking a reliable and proactive School Caretaker to join a friendly primary school in Northwood. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with practical maintenance skills who takes pride in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for pupils, staff, and visitors. The successful candidate will play a key role in the day-to-day operation and upkeep of the school site, ensuring that the premises are well-maintained, secure, and compliant with health and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Site Security: Opening the school each morning and securing the premises as required. Conducting routine security checks around the school buildings and grounds. Responding to alarm activations where necessary. Managing access for contractors and visitors.
- Maintenance and Repairs: Carrying out minor repairs and general maintenance tasks. Replacing light bulbs and undertaking basic decorating duties. Reporting larger maintenance issues to the school leadership team or external contractors.
- Health & Safety: Conducting regular health and safety inspections. Ensuring fire exits, walkways, and communal areas remain clear and safe. Monitoring the condition of playground equipment and outdoor areas. Supporting fire drills and emergency procedures.
- Grounds Maintenance: Keeping playgrounds, pathways, and entrances clean and safe. Litter picking and maintaining outdoor areas. Carrying out basic gardening tasks, including weeding, hedge trimming, and leaf clearance. Gritting pathways during adverse weather conditions.
- Facilities Support: Checking that toilets, classrooms, and communal areas are maintained to a high standard. Ensuring essential supplies such as soap and paper towels are replenished. Supporting with room and hall set-ups for assemblies, school events, and parent evenings. Receiving deliveries and assisting with storage management.
Requirements
- Previous experience in caretaking, facilities, maintenance, site supervision, or a similar role.
- Good practical DIY and maintenance skills.
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative.
