We are recruiting for a caring and inclusive mainstream primary school in Lambeth seeking a dedicated KS1 PMLD / Complex Needs Support Assistant to support pupils in Key Stage 1.

This role is ideal for someone experienced in working with young children with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and complex physical, medical, and communication needs. You will provide consistent, nurturing support to help pupils feel safe, regulated, and engaged in their early learning experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to KS1 pupils with PMLD and complex needs
  • Supporting early sensory-based learning and play-based activities
  • Assisting with personal care, feeding, mobility, and physical support where required
  • Supporting non-verbal and alternative communication, including visuals, PECS, or communication aids
  • Helping pupils manage transitions, routines, and sensory sensitivities
  • Promoting emotional security, comfort, and wellbeing
  • Working closely with class teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and support staff
  • Following EHCPs, care plans, and medical guidance accurately and consistently

Requirements:

  • Experience supporting PMLD and/or complex needs (essential)
  • Understanding of early childhood development and sensory processing
  • Confidence and willingness to support personal care and physical needs
  • Calm, patient, and nurturing approach
  • Ability to interpret and respond to non-verbal communication
  • Experience in a KS1, EYFS, or SEN setting (desirable)
