We are recruiting for a welcoming mainstream primary school in Bromley seeking a dedicated Autism Support Assistant to work with pupils in Key Stage 2. This role is ideal for someone with experience supporting autistic children who benefit from structured routines, calm communication, and consistent adult support. You will work closely with pupils to support emotional regulation, social understanding, and engagement in learning - both 1:1 and in small groups.

Responsibilities

  • Providing tailored support to autistic KS2 pupils (1:1 and small group work)
  • Supporting emotional regulation using low-arousal and de-escalation approaches
  • Helping pupils navigate transitions, routines, and sensory sensitivities
  • Encouraging positive communication, independence, and confidence
  • Supporting engagement with learning in a calm, predictable environment
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and support staff
  • Using consistent, autism-informed strategies to reduce anxiety and distress

Requirements

  • Experience supporting autistic children / ASD needs (essential)
  • Understanding of sensory needs, emotional regulation, and behaviour as communication
  • Experience with de-escalation and low-arousal approaches
  • Calm, patient, and empathetic approach
  • Ability to build trusting, positive relationships with pupils
  • Primary school experience (KS2 desirable)
