Are you a practical, hands-on individual with a passion for supporting education? Do you have experience or interest in working with materials such as wood, metal, plastics, textiles, and food? We are seeking a Science & Design Technology Technician to join secondary schools across South London. This exciting and varied role offers the opportunity to work alongside teachers and students, ensuring the smooth running of practical lessons and the safe operation of specialist equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Assist teaching staff and students during practical sessions across a range of design technology disciplines including woodwork, metalwork, plastics, textiles, and food technology.
- Demonstrate techniques and provide practical support and guidance during lessons.
- Ensure the safe and effective operation of tools, machinery, and equipment, conducting regular maintenance and safety checks.
- Manage stock and materials, monitor inventory, and place orders when required.
- Maintain a tidy, well-organised workshop environment that supports efficient teaching and learning.
- Support the creation of teaching aids, classroom displays, and project materials.
- Assist with the set-up and dismantling of exhibitions and student projects.
- Promote a strong health and safety culture, ensuring all practices meet current regulations.
- Previous experience in a workshop, lab, or technician role (school-based experience desirable but not essential).
- Confident using and maintaining machinery, tools, and equipment safely.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- A proactive attitude and a willingness to support both staff and students.
