A thriving specialist school in South Manchester is seeking an experienced SEN support practitioner / HLTA to join their team from September. With immediate interviews available, this is an excellent opportunity to secure your next role ahead of the new academic year.

About the Role

Working predominantly across KS3 and KS4, you will provide high-quality support to pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN/SEND) and additional learning needs, including pupils who may display challenging behaviour. You will work across 1:1, small-group and whole-class settings, supporting pupils to access learning, develop independence and make positive academic and personal progress. You will also provide valuable support to teachers, helping lessons run smoothly and ensuring pupils receive the consistent support they need.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering effective 1:1, small-group and classroom SEN support.
  • Supporting pupils with additional learning needs and challenging behaviour.
  • Assisting teachers with planning, learning activities and classroom management.
  • Leading learning activities and interventions where appropriate.
  • Promoting positive behaviour, engagement, independence and progress.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, families and wider professionals.
  • Using resilience, patience and initiative when supporting complex needs.
  • Providing guidance and support to other teaching assistants where required.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience supporting pupils with SEN/SEND.
  • Experience within specialist, PRU, SEMH or challenging behaviour settings (desirable).
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A patient, resilient and engaging approach.
  • Confidence supporting and guiding other support staff.
  • A genuine passion for helping young people achieve their potential.
