TimeOutdoors exists to help more people get active outdoors.

For more than 20 years we've connected people with events, challenges, charity places and adventures. Whether someone is looking for their first 10K, a challenge to take on with friends, a charity place in a major event or an adventure further afield, we want TimeOutdoors to be the place that helps them find it and take that next step.

Alongside our community, we work with charities, event organisers and adventure providers - including some of the biggest and most recognisable brands in the sector - helping them reach the right people and turn interest into participation.

There's a lot happening at TimeOutdoors. The words on our website do a lot of that work: thousands of listings - events, challenges, trips, clubs - are how visitors discover what to do next, and the landing pages they arrive on are where they choose.

What we need now is a writer who can own every word of that journey - and make it convert.

We're a small, close-knit team based in Yorkshire, punching well above our weight. We've built an AI-powered listings tool that does the heavy lifting of drafting and updating listing content - but it needs a sharp editorial eye behind it.

That's this role.

The role

If you're a sharp, versatile writer who loves the craft of a well-turned sentence - and you're genuinely excited rather than threatened by what AI tools can do for your productivity - this role was built for you.

This is a copywriting job - but not a traditional one. It's editorial craft applied at scale, with AI doing the first draft and you making it excellent: accurate, on-brand, and written in a way that makes someone want to click sign up.

You'll own the quality and accuracy of the written word across the website - the landing pages people arrive on, the hundreds of listings they scan, and the listing pages they commit on - working with guidance from our Marketing Manager to make sure every step of that journey is doing its job: converting a visitor into a participant. You'll also work alongside our Listings Coordinator, who focuses on basic listings, helping maintain consistency across the whole site.

The AI tool handles volume. You bring judgement - knowing when a draft is flat, generic, or just slightly wrong, and fixing it fast, while keeping every page in TimeOutdoors' distinctive Yorkshire, no-nonsense voice.

What success looks like

  • Listings are accurate, well-written and consistent in tone across the site - whether AI-drafted or written from scratch.
  • Click-through from landing pages into listings - and conversion from listing to sign-up - both improve as a result of clear, sharp copy.
  • Key landing pages - charity places, challenges, advertiser sign-up - are current, on-brand and measurably converting.
  • The AI listings tool's output gets better over time because you're refining prompts and catching patterns in what needs fixing.

What you’ll do

Own the words across the website

  • Review, edit and improve AI-drafted listing content for accuracy, clarity, tone and conversion - across events, challenges, trips and clubs.
  • Write listings and content from scratch where AI drafting isn't the right starting point.
  • Keep TimeOutdoors' tone of voice - authentic, down to earth, no BS - consistent across thousands of pages.
  • Fact-check details (dates, locations, entry requirements) so listings are always accurate and trustworthy.

Own the journey: landing page to sign-up

  • Own the copy on the landing pages people arrive on - charity places, challenges, advertiser sign-up, campaigns - from the page intro and section headers to the calls to action that earn the click.
  • Then own the next step: listing pages that give people the confidence and clarity to commit - dates, prices, what it's actually like - so the journey from landing page to shortlist to sign-up never stalls on the words.
  • Maintain key evergreen pages (guides, FAQs, category pages) so they stay accurate, fresh and working hard in search.
  • Use traffic and conversion data from the Marketing Manager to decide what to rewrite first - and prove the difference your words made.

Work with AI, not just alongside it

  • Get hands-on with our AI listings tool - refining prompts and instructions so the quality of first drafts keeps improving.
  • Spot recurring issues or gaps in AI-generated content and feed them back to improve the process.
  • Balance speed (letting AI do the heavy lifting) with quality control (making sure nothing substandard goes live).

Requirements

Must have

  • Excellent copywriting and editing skills - you can spot what's wrong with a sentence and know how to fix it, quickly and instinctively.
  • A flexible range: as comfortable writing a 40-word listing or a button label as a long-form guide.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for using AI tools as part of your writing process - you see them as something to direct and improve, not something to fear or resist.
  • Meticulous attention to detail - you'll be fact-checking as much as you're writing.
  • Able to adapt tone and style to match a consistent brand voice, rather than imposing your own.
  • Comfortable working at pace across a high volume of shorter pieces, as well as occasional long-form website content.
  • Organised and self-motivated - you can manage your own queue of work and prioritise sensibly without close supervision.
  • Able to co-work with the team in Yorkshire a minimum of two days a week - the remainder of the role is remote.
  • Experience editing or writing for a website with high volumes of similar content (e.g. listings, classifieds, e-commerce product copy, travel or events content).
  • Experience writing landing page or campaign copy, ideally with an eye on conversion rate optimisation.
  • Familiarity with SEO copywriting principles.
  • Experience prompt-engineering or refining instructions for AI writing tools.
  • A genuine interest in the outdoors and active lifestyles - it helps you write with authenticity, though it's not essential if your editorial instincts are strong.
  • £25,000–£30,000 starting salary depending on experience
  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays
  • Subsidised entry fees for events on the platform
  • Monthly team lunches and quarterly away days
  • A collaborative, values-driven team that's genuinely passionate about what we do

How we work

We're a hybrid team that values face time. The energy and creativity that comes from working together in person is central to how we operate — especially while we're growing — so this role includes a minimum of two days a week co-working with the team in Yorkshire, with the remainder worked remotely.
