About the Role:
Our client is seeking a highly skilled 132kV Senior Authorised Person (SAP) to lead the construction, operation, and maintenance of high-voltage (HV) and extra high-voltage (EHV) electricity distribution networks.
In this critical role, you will manage the planning and execution of HV switching, contractor auditing, and network safety. You’ll be responsible for ensuring technical compliance, regulatory standards, and operational excellence across live and planned HV systems.
The ideal candidate will have a solid background with a UK DNO or IDNO, current SAP authorisation up to 132kV, and a passion for delivering compliant, safe, and reliable energy networks.
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform and supervise HV switching operations up to 132kV, including fault response and planned outages
- Audit and authorise Independent Connection Providers (ICPs) and third-party contractors
- Act as a Senior Authorised Person under Distribution Safety Rules (DSR)
- Provide standby support for 24/7 HV control as part of a rota
- Monitor construction activities to ensure technical compliance and quality control
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations including ENA, HSE, and ESQCR
- Collaborate with design and project teams to support asset adoption and commissioning
- Lead root cause investigations and implement corrective measures for faults
- Represent the business at client meetings and industry forums
Professional and Personal Attributes:
- Must have current SAP authorisation for switching/fault response up to 132kV
- Essential: Background working within a UK DNO or IDNO
- In-depth knowledge of HV/LV distribution networks, safety rules, and switching schedules
- Proficient in protection schemes, SCADA systems, and network control
- Experienced in managing ICP contractor authorisations and audits
- Strong understanding of regulatory compliance and risk management in the energy sector
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to make critical decisions under pressure
- Familiarity with incident investigations, asset management, and reporting systems
- Valid UK driving license and willingness to travel across the region
