Test Engineer

Test Engineer

Full-Time On-site
T

You are the person who proves our hardware works. Every board we design passes across your bench before it goes anywhere: you build it up, bring it to life, measure whether it does what the schematic says it should, push it until it fails, and tell the designers exactly what you found.

ABOUT TIMEBEAT

We build precision time synchronisation hardware and software: PCIe timing cards, rack appliances and portable units used by stock exchanges, telecoms operators, broadcasters and defence programmes. We design our own boards, from GNSS receivers and disciplined oscillators to White Rabbit and network timing hardware, and build them with contract manufacturers. We are headquartered in London with offices in Ho Chi Minh City and Dallas, Texas.

THE JOB

A hands on role with a wide reach. Hand soldering and rework one hour, scripting a test rig the next, then a call with a manufacturer about a yield problem, and occasionally a trip to a customer site to get an installation working. You report to the CTO and sit with the people who drew the schematic.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Assemble, rework and repair PCBs and prototype hardware, including fine pitch SMD rework.
  • Carry out board bring up and functional testing of new designs.
  • Characterise circuits and run design verification testing, and report results to the design team.
  • Run stress, margin and environmental testing.
  • Investigate customer returns and field failures, find the root cause, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Develop, maintain and run production test procedures and fixtures, automated wherever possible.
  • Liaise with contract manufacturers on test, quality and yield.
  • Provide technical support for installation and troubleshooting at customer sites when required.
  • Keep test records, failure reports and rework documentation in order.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Proven experience in an electronics test, technician or hardware engineering role.
  • A high standard of hand soldering and SMD rework.
  • Proficient with standard lab equipment: oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, electronic loads and signal generators.
  • Able to read and interpret schematics, PCB layouts and datasheets.
  • A structured, methodical approach to fault finding.
  • Test automation using a scripting language, such as Python.
  • The right to work in the UK.
  • Experience with RF measurement (spectrum analysers, VNAs) or GNSS systems.
  • Familiarity with timing and synchronisation hardware.
  • Experience with production test and contract manufacturers.
  • Experience managing RMAs or failure analysis processes.

You will not tick every box on the desirable list. Nobody does. If you have the essentials, apply.

WHY THIS ROLE

  • Your measurements are the product. Our customers buy certainty about time, and whether a board earns that is decided by the tests you design and run.
  • Real instruments on problems where picoseconds matter.
  • A small hardware team with direct access to the CTO. What you find on the bench changes the next revision in days.
