We are looking for help in the afternoons in our affordable food shop. General shop work, stock checking, interacting with customers, partner organisations and EMS staff.

The EMS Affordable Food Shop Opening Hours: Monday to Friday, 10am to 3pm

Location: 1 Endeavour Crescent, Hull HU9 5SZ

Purpose: We collect food as surplus from supermarkets and food manufacturers around the city, and we also receive food donations and use this produce to stock our shelves.

Food stocks include:

  • Fresh fruit and vegetables
  • Pastries sweet and savoury
  • A range of bread options sliced and uncut loaves, bread buns etc
  • Sliced meat
  • Chilled items such as fruit, vegetables, soup, cream etc
  • Water and fizzy drinks
  • Toiletries
  • A range of non-food items such as clothes, crockery, cutlery etc

Everyone is welcome; we do not require any financial paperwork (such as benefits information) for residents to visit the shop. Regarding the long‑life shelves, you can take four different items once a week for £1.00. All other items (unless priced) are available for a donation. Customers are asked to provide a signature if they have taken their four items or meat so we can monitor who has picked up that week. Customers are also asked to provide their postcode so we can plot our shop usage on a map.

Tasks and Responsibilities include working with customers, taking money and giving change, filling shelves, helping to clear and clean the shop after it’s closed.
