Overview
Our client is a well-established fit-out contractor based in Kent, delivering high-quality retail and office fit-out projects across the South of England. They are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor who can take full commercial ownership of projects from inception through to final account. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially astute professional who enjoys running their own jobs and working closely with clients, subcontractors, and internal delivery teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Full commercial management of multiple fit‑out projects from pre‑contract to completion
- Preparation and management of budgets, cost plans, and cash flows
- Procurement and commercial management of subcontractors
- Valuation of works, assessment of variations, and change control
- Preparation, negotiation, and agreement of interim valuations and final accounts
- Cost reporting and forecasting to senior management
- Ensuring projects are delivered within agreed commercial targets
Estimating
- Preparing detailed cost estimates and tender submissions for retail and office fit‑out projects
- Reviewing drawings, specifications, and client requirements
- Producing bills of quantities and take‑offs
- Liaising with supply chain to obtain competitive pricing
- Supporting value engineering and cost‑saving initiatives
Project Management Support
- Working closely with Project Managers and Site Managers to ensure smooth project delivery
- Attending project meetings (office and site‑based)
- Monitoring progress against programme and commercial milestones
- Managing client relationships from a commercial perspective
- Identifying and mitigating commercial risks
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within retail and/or office fit‑out
- Experience running projects from inception to completion
- Strong knowledge of estimating, cost control, and final accounts
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Commercially aware with strong negotiation skills
- Confident communicator with clients and subcontractors
- Good IT skills (Excel and commercial software)
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable
- Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
- Experience working for a main contractor or fit‑out specialist
- Knowledge of standard forms of contract
