The company works on a diverse range of projects, with a focus on public sector works including schools, universities, hospitals, and government buildings. Their portfolio ranges from smaller works around £50K to large-scale refurbishments up to £5M. They are now looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team, with a strong commercial background to support the company’s growth, especially in the local council sectors. Key Responsibilities: Contractual Management: Lead on contractual obligations and ensure all terms are adhered to, managing all contract documentation and correspondence. Commercial Awareness & Value Engineering: Apply strong commercial acumen to maximise project value, manage costs, and identify value engineering opportunities to improve project efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Claims Management: Oversee and manage any claims or variations, negotiating with clients, contractors, and subcontractors to resolve disputes in a timely manner. Project Cost Control: Monitor and control project budgets, including preparing cost estimates and final accounts. Although there will be some estimating duties, the role is primarily focused on cost management rather than detailed estimation. Client Liaison: Work closely with clients, ensuring communication is maintained throughout the project lifecycle and that the projects are delivered within scope, time, and budget. Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and manage project risk by identifying and mitigating potential issues. Travel Requirements: While the majority of projects are based within the North West, you will be required to travel occasionally to other locations across the UK, including for site visits and meetings. Requirements: Experience: Significant experience in a Quantity Surveyor role, ideally with a background in main contracting and working on refurbishment and fit-out projects. Experience in the education, healthcare, and public sector is highly desirable. Skills: Strong commercial and contractual awareness, with the ability to navigate complex contract details, manage claims, and implement value engineering strategies. Qualifications: A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying is preferred, although not essential if you have proven experience in a similar role. Driving License: A full, clean UK driving license is essential for this role, as the role will require occasional travel to various sites. Location Flexibility: Based in the Oldham area or nearby, with the ability to travel across the North West and further afield for site visits and client meetings. Desirable Attributes: Ability to understand and address the potential impact of projects on local communities, particularly for public sector works. Proactive in identifying cost-saving opportunities and resolving issues before they escalate. Strong negotiation skills and the ability to manage relationships with both clients and subcontractors.
