Reporting To: Site Manager - Overview
We are looking to recruit an experienced and motivated Senior Site Engineer to support projects across the North West region.
This is an excellent opportunity for a highly capable engineer with a strong background in civil engineering and groundworks who can take ownership of site engineering activities, provide leadership to site teams, and, when required, manage projects on a short-term basis.
The successful candidate will have extensive industry experience, ideally around 10 years or more, and be confident mentoring and developing junior and trainee engineers.
A strong commitment to health, safety, quality, and delivering projects to programme is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out setting out, surveying, and levelling activities using modern surveying equipment and technology.
- Support the delivery of projects involving foundations, drainage, reinforced concrete structures, earthworks, and general groundworks.
- Conduct pre-construction site surveys, boundary verification checks, and existing level surveys.
- Calculate and quantify excavation volumes, reduced level dig requirements, cut and fill operations, and disposal quantities.
- Monitor and supervise subcontractors and site operatives, including groundworkers, steel erection teams, and other specialist trades.
- Produce and maintain accurate site records, including survey information, quality records, and as-built documentation.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with project specifications, drawings, and industry standards.
- Promote and maintain the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance across all site activities.
- Provide engineering support during project mobilisation and early-stage site setup.
- Assist the Site Manager in the day-to-day delivery of projects and provide management cover during periods of absence or annual leave.
- Support project planning and problem-solving to ensure work is delivered efficiently and safely.
- Coach, mentor, and develop trainee and junior Site Engineers, sharing technical knowledge and best practice.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Significant experience as a Site Engineer within the civil engineering, infrastructure, or groundworks sectors.
- Strong technical knowledge of foundations, drainage systems, structures, earthworks, and setting out procedures.
- Proven ability to supervise site operations and coordinate multiple trades.
- Competent in the use of modern surveying instruments and site engineering software.
- Excellent understanding of construction health and safety requirements and industry best practice.
- Ability to work independently, make informed decisions, and resolve technical issues on site.
- Experience producing accurate site records and as-built information.
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and support junior team members.
- Capable of stepping into a project leadership role for short periods when required.
- Preferred Qualifications
- SMSTS or SSSTS certification
- First Aid at Work qualification
- Relevant construction or civil engineering qualification (HNC, HND, Degree, or equivalent)
