The Opportunity
Our client is seeking an experienced
Senior Design Manager to join their growing team in a standalone leadership position.
This is a senior appointment that requires an individual who can work autonomously, providing expert technical leadership with minimal guidance.
The successful candidate will lead design across a growing portfolio of complex remediation and refurbishment projects, playing a pivotal role in ensuring schemes are technically robust, compliant and fully coordinated before construction begins.
Acting as the link between Pre-Construction and Operations, you will influence project outcomes from the earliest stages, working collaboratively with internal teams, clients and external consultants to deliver buildable, commercially successful and fully compliant solutions.
Due to the nature of the role, the ideal candidate will be based around the Stoke-on-Trent area, with regular travel required to projects across the UK.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the design process across multiple remediation and refurbishment projects.
- Bridge the gap between Pre-Construction and Operations, ensuring seamless project delivery from concept through to construction.
- Provide technical leadership throughout the PCSA period.
- Lead multidisciplinary design teams, coordinating architects, structural engineers, fire engineers and specialist consultants.
- Manage and navigate the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) Gateway process, ensuring projects achieve compliance at every stage.
- Attend client meetings, providing technical expertise, design leadership and project updates.
- Review design information, identify technical risks and implement practical, cost-effective solutions.
- Support tender submissions by providing technical input during bid development.
- Work closely with Commercial, Operational and Project Delivery teams to ensure designs remain compliant, buildable and commercially viable.
- Ensure design documentation is coordinated, accurate and delivered to programme.
- Drive continuous improvement within design management processes and promote best practice across projects.
About You
The successful candidate will demonstrate
- Extensive experience delivering refurbishment, remediation and/or residential construction projects.
- Previous experience operating at Senior Design Manager level within a standalone role.
- The confidence and technical expertise to work independently with minimal supervision.
- A thorough understanding of the Building Safety Act, Building Safety Regulator (BSR) requirements and Gateway processes.
- Strong technical knowledge of construction methodologies, building regulations and design coordination.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary design teams and external consultants.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence clients and project teams.
- A commercial mindset, ensuring technical solutions remain practical, compliant and financially viable.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Willingness to travel nationally as required.
