We are recruiting for Non-Executive Directors (NEDs) to join our Board and contribute to the strategic leadership of This Land.

As an NED, you will bring a wide spectrum of experience, offering valuable insight and objectivity to Board deliberations. You will play a key role in monitoring and constructively challenging the Executive and Senior Management Teams while ensuring that governance and risk management remain at the forefront of decision-making. Independence from the Executive Team is essential, as is a deep understanding of corporate finance, legal, or operational control systems.

One NED will have a legal and governance background, with strong risk management expertise and corporate governance knowledge. The other NED will have experience in housing development and delivery at a group level, with strategic and corporate partnering skills, including mergers and acquisitions. The roles require a strong understanding of risk management, corporate governance, and communication skills.

All NEDs will be expected to contribute to the work of subcommittees, with at least one NED assuming a chairing role within a subcommittee. The Board meets quarterly, with additional subcommittee meetings held in between. The roles require an estimated commitment of up to two days per month.

We are looking for highly experienced professionals who can provide strategic guidance and independent counsel to the Board while maintaining an objective and impartial stance. As an NED, you will focus on high-level strategic matters rather than operational direction, ensuring that governance, compliance, and financial oversight remain strong.

You will have a proven track record of senior leadership, with significant experience at C-Suite or Partner level in a financially and operationally complex organisation. You will possess excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills, with the ability to provide a broad perspective on financial and operational matters. Experience in ESG delivery and change management, as well as a background in the affordable housing sector, is highly desirable.

We are particularly interested in candidates with strong networks and connections that could support the company’s long-term strategic goals. Those with legal expertise should be adept at interrogating legal agreements and providing governance oversight, while those with housing development experience should have a deep understanding of strategic planning and corporate partnerships.

Ideally, you will be based in or have knowledge of the Cambridgeshire area, with an appreciation of the local housing market and development opportunities. You should also have a degree or professional qualification, a diplomatic and flexible approach, and the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including the Shareholder, to shape and deliver the company’s strategy.
