The Role
As Executive Director for Growth, Enterprise and Environment, you will lead one of the council’s most high-profile directorates. This is a wide-ranging and demanding post, responsible for economic growth, regeneration, inward investment, environmental services, planning, and climate response.

You will work closely with the Managing Director and the wider leadership team to ensure the successful delivery of the council’s priorities. You will lead major projects that are visible both locally and nationally, supporting the borough’s ambitions for cleaner energy, modern industry and inclusive growth. At the same time, you will ensure that core services are delivered efficiently, sustainably and to a consistently high standard.

You will be a key player in the council’s relationship with the Tees Valley Combined Authority, South Tees Development Corporation and national and international partners. From supporting complex planning decisions to attracting inward investment and delivering on ambitious regeneration plans, your work will directly shape the future of Redcar and Cleveland.

About You
We are seeking a strategic, credible and collaborative leader. You will have significant experience of working at senior level in a complex political or public-facing environment, and a clear understanding of how to deliver outcomes through influence and partnership.

You will need to be politically astute, capable of managing competing agendas, and confident working with elected members and external stakeholders. You will also bring strong financial acumen and a track record of delivering major projects on time and within budget.

However, cultural fit is just as important as technical ability. We are looking for someone who leads by example, inspires trust, and brings a values-led approach to leadership. Someone who can speak truth to power, support innovation, and help create a shared sense of purpose across the council and with its partners. You will be confident without ego, pragmatic in your decisions, and committed to building a high-performing team that reflects the values of the organisation.

Why Join Us?
Redcar and Cleveland is a borough with a strong identity and exciting prospects. With a stable political environment, strong regional relationships and a commitment to continuous improvement, this is an opportunity to make a lasting difference.
