Hammersmith & Fulham is seeking a Level 3 Registered Building Inspector to lead its Building Control service at a significant time for the profession. This is an opportunity to take responsibility for Building Control within one of London's most active and complex development environments. The borough contains a diverse mix of high-rise residential buildings, major regeneration projects, commercial developments, heritage assets and complex mixed-use schemes, all operating within an evolving building safety regime. The role offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of the Building Safety Act and to influence the delivery of safe, compliant and well-designed buildings across the borough.

Reporting to the Director of Planning and Property, you will act as the Council's professional lead for Building Control, providing oversight of all statutory functions relating to Building Regulations, the Building Safety Act, dangerous structures, structural safety, fire safety and associated regulatory responsibilities. You will also fulfil the role of Registered Building Inspector Level 3 and Manager under the Building Safety Act.

You will work closely with developers, design teams, housing providers, regulators and professional partners on a wide variety of major projects. The role includes responsibility for providing expert advice on building safety issues, responding to dangerous structures, advising on structural and fire safety matters and ensuring the Council fulfils its statutory obligations. You will also represent the authority with bodies including the Building Safety Regulator, London District Surveyors Association and LABC.

The service is looking to strengthen its permanent professional capacity and invest in its long-term resilience. We are looking for an experienced practitioner who can provide technical expertise, professional oversight and continuity for the service whilst helping the Council respond to the changing regulatory environment. This is a role for someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, making sound professional judgements and ensuring the highest standards of public safety.

You will bring substantial experience within Building Control, together with a detailed understanding of the Building Safety Act, Building Regulations and wider legislative framework. Experience of major urban developments, higher-risk buildings and complex regulatory environments will be particularly valuable. A strong understanding of structural safety, fire safety and dangerous structures work is essential.

While applicants must hold Level 3 Registered Building Inspector status, we are open to candidates from a range of backgrounds within the profession. Leadership accreditation at Level 4 would be advantageous but is not essential. Candidates with the technical expertise, professional credibility and ambition to develop further will be welcomed.

In return, you will join a borough that understands the importance of Building Control, values professional expertise and offers the opportunity to work on a varied portfolio of technically challenging projects. This is a role where your qualifications, judgement and technical capability will be genuinely valued and where you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and quality of the built environment across Hammersmith & Fulham.

If you are a Level 3 Registered Building Inspector looking for a senior technical role in a major London borough, we would be delighted to hear from you.
