We are seeking an experienced and well-organised Senior Site Engineer with strong leadership skills to join the Northwest region of Tilbury Douglas, commencing with a project in Preston. Tilbury Douglas is delivering a landmark £22 million project – The Applebee Wood School, which will provide a modern, sustainable, and inclusive educational environment offering excellent learning opportunities for local SEND children. The development includes a new two-storey school building designed to support future growth and enhance community access. Following completion of your role on this project, you will work on other exciting projects in our Northwest Region.

As Senior Site Engineer, you will be site-based with overall responsibility for controlling the site engineering and technical aspects of construction works. You will play a pivotal role in implementing and maintaining a robust quality control regime, ensuring that works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard.

What you will be doing:

  • Ensuring that the project works comply with the requirements of the contract specification and drawings etc. and maintaining appropriate records to confirm such compliance.
  • Manage and execute setting out and surveying duties using a total station and/or GNSS/GPS for earthworks, drainage, foundations, structures, landscaping and all build elements.
  • Accurately track and document all earthworks and material movements (cut and fill) on site.
  • Utilise Autodesk Civil 3D to perform pre-commencement volume calculations and generate reports for required cut and fill quantities for the Project QS.
  • Review and comment on construction drawings and technical specifications to highlight any discrepancies or buildability issues early to resolve them before they impact the project.
  • Producing and recording As-Built surveys of the works as they progress.
  • Utilising Autodesk Civil3D to extract setting out information and assist in the planning of sites, such as compound layouts etc.
  • Maintaining excellent and effective working relationships with the customer and their representatives/advisors.
  • Implementing the Company’s strategy and Policies for Sustainability, Health and Safety, Quality, Environmental, Training and Development etc. and acting as an exemplar of the Company culture and values.
  • Implementing the Companies Business Management System.
  • Supporting initiatives to deliver ongoing continuous improvement.
  • Line management responsibilities including the undertaking of annual appraisal and development for junior members of staff.
  • Any other duties relevant to the role.

What we will need from you:

  • Appropriate technical knowledge and main contractor construction experience (essential).
  • Degree (or similar equivalent) in a relevant construction subject (preferred).
  • Software proficiency in Microsoft and Autodesk packages.
  • Experience writing and completing Inspection Test Plans and Construction records (Quality Assurance).
  • Experience managing non-conformances with subcontractors.
  • Temporary works management, or familiarity with the temporary works process either through a temporary works supervisor or temporary works coordinator qualification.
  • Experience managing subcontractor packages.
  • Site Safety Management Training Scheme (SMSTS) qualification; Appropriate CSCS Card (essential).
  • Comprehensive experience in a similar role as a Senior Site Engineer (essential).
  • Appropriate technical background.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to use own initiative and apply logical and critical thinking.
  • Robust analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to plan and manage time.
  • Strong attention to detail.
