As a key member of our Pre-Construction Team within Infrastructure, the Senior Estimator (MEICA) plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate project estimation, financial viability, and alignment with client expectations and company objectives. This position supports the bidding process for MEICA aspects within our AMP 8 Water Frameworks, including Thames Water, Yorkshire Water, South West Water, and Severn Trent. The role involves preparing and submitting tenders under various procurement models while working collaboratively to secure profitable future workloads, ensuring competitive and cost-effective solutions.
What you will be doing:
- Tender Appraisal β Review tender documentation to ensure full understanding, identifying risks and opportunities.
- Specification Development β Interpret and expand upon client specifications and drawings for accurate subcontractor pricing.
- Pre-Tender Design β Develop preliminary Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) for water and sewage treatment projects.
- Quotation Procurement β Obtain and assess technical and commercial quotations for subcontracts, materials, and labour.
- Estimate Production β Generate precise estimates for MEICA-related works within tenders.
- Resource Planning β Advise the Pre-Construction Manager on additional resources required for tender completion.
- Tender Programming β Develop detailed tender programs for MEICA activities in alignment with project schedules.
- Risk Management β Identify and document potential risks in a tender risk register, proposing mitigation strategies.
- Value Engineering β Conduct value engineering during the design phase to optimize project efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Stakeholder Engagement β Collaborate with process engineers, civil engineers, and commercial teams to ensure project cohesion.
- Site Assessments β Conduct site visits to gather essential information for accurate estimations.
- Settlement Meetings β Present tenders to senior management, highlighting key commercial aspects and risks.
- Tender Submission β Prepare comprehensive tender documentation covering both technical and commercial aspects.
- Client Interaction β Attend post-tender commercial meetings to discuss proposals and address client queries.
- Quality Compliance β Ensure all estimation processes adhere to the companyβs Integrated Management System (IMS).
- Handover Documentation β Prepare detailed handover documents post-contract award for smooth project initiation.
- Additional Duties β Support other tasks essential for successful tender submissions.
What we will need from you:
- Degree in a MEICA-related discipline.
- Minimum 10 yearsβ experience in a similar role within the Water Sector.
- Membership in a relevant professional body (IMechE, IET, MICE, or equivalent).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Strong analytical estimating experience across projects up to Β£30m.
- Understanding of various contract forms, including traditional, partnering, design & build, two-stage tenders, and frameworks.
- Technical construction knowledge and familiarity with industry standards.
- Ability to build estimates from first principles, including methodology, sequencing, and outputs.
- Strong cost planning capabilities.
- Experience with estimating software (e.g., Conquest).
- Awareness of Building Information Modelling (BIM).
- Existing relationships with suppliers.
