The European Content Regulation team focuses on advising the business on the implementation of, and ongoing compliance with, content focused laws in the region. These include the Digital Services Act in the EU and the Online Safety Bill in the UK. This is a new and developing area of the law so provides many interesting and novel legal challenges. We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated UK / EU qualified lawyer to support on a wide range of content regulation matters in the EU, in particular the UK Online Safety Act. This role will be based in London and will play a central role in the Europe legal team.
Responsibilities:
- Advising on laws and regulations relating to content and safety, with a focus on the Online Safety Act in the UK, including implementation and ongoing compliance.
- Support in conducting risk assessments under the Online Safety Act (OSA) and Digital Services Act (DSA), including understanding and analysis of platform obligations and systemic risks.
- Supporting our Trust and Safety and Product teams, advising on content regulation and compliance issues and user safety related legal matters.
- Assisting on regulatory engagement in conjunction with the Government Relations team.
- Closely collaborating and coordinating with regulatory and litigation lawyers, product, public policy and communications teams on regulatory matters and policy strategies, external communication, and investigations.
- Working with and managing external counsel as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A senior lawyer with a minimum of 2 years in a regulatory and/or product legal compliance role from a well regarded private practice team or established in-house department.
- Experience advising on laws relating to user generated content, with specific experience navigating the Online Safety Act in the UK.
- Ability to work as a team player who can effectively work with, manage and coordinate colleagues, internal stakeholders and cross-functional stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A self-motivated legal professional with the resilience, focus, and integrity to persevere through complex challenges, and a steadfast commitment to collective success.
- Experience in consumer-facing technology, digital platforms, or media, or deep understanding of these sectors through prior legal advisory work.
- Ability to manage a large number and variety of high profile and strategic projects and navigate ambiguous legal and regulatory environments.
- Previous experience of advising on the practical implementation of new laws.
- Highest standards of ethics and professional integrity.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and proficient in working closely with and advising senior executives of an organisation.
