About the Team: The Global Legal IP Protection and Platform Governance team operates under the global legal. The team supports multiple business units of TikTok to build and update global external and internal policies and rules, implements IP laws and regulations in each region to ensure our platform is safe and trustworthy for users and IP rights holders. Within the legal work framework, the team is committed to protecting IP rights. We are looking for an experienced IP attorney for a position that offers the candidate a unique opportunity to be part of a growing team dedicated to working with cross-functional teams, especially in the UK and EU, to develop and improve our platform governance in a fast-paced environment. The candidate must be highly collaborative, self-motivated, a strategic thinker, and intellectually curious.

Responsibilities:

  • Support business units including TikTok Shop, TikTok UGC, etc. in establishing and updating global or regional IP governance-related policies and education articles, internal SOPs, and developing tools and processes for improving user/right owner experience while minimising IPR risk in the area assigned by leadership.
  • Support business units including TikTok Shop, TikTok UGC, etc. in responding to, investigating, managing, and resolving local high-impact IP disputes or related incidents.
  • Work together with cross-functional teams to manage external relationships with brands, industry associations, law enforcement, and government regulators, through directly participating in meetings, advising on talking points, setting SOPs, reviewing agreements or memorandums, etc.
  • Monitor local legal requirements, industry practices, and business developments. Provide guidance or lead cross-functional teams to implement the same.
  • Support or drive global or regional legal projects to promote awareness of IP protection for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage local outside counsels to guarantee the deliverable quality.
  • Organise and provide IP training to internal colleagues.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Solid experience as an IP lawyer working in a top law firm or an in-house legal team of relevant industries.
  • Qualified Lawyer familiar with IP laws, rules and regulations in the UK and EU and industry's best practices.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and effectively liaise with internal and external teams, with experience in handling complex cross-functional matters.
  • Able to develop and execute project plans, independently monitor, and ensure timely delivery of project deliverables.
  • Demonstrated capacity for critical thinking.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and thrive in a fast-paced working environment.
  • Able to identify risks in a forward-looking manner and provide solutions.
  • Proven ability to cross-functionally over multiple regions and meet tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an ABA accredited law school (or foreign equivalent) will be a plus.
  • Experience in E-commerce/social media IP protection will be a plus.
  • Familiar with the trends and developments of IP laws and regulations in platform governance will be a plus.
