The Europe Tax team is building to work with other corporate functions on tax advisory, planning, structuring, and tax controversy. We ensure compliance with direct (corporate income tax) and indirect tax and solve tax related issues. TikTok is seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Tax Manager to join the Tax team in London to support its rapid business growth in Europe. The ideal candidate has experience in indirect tax compliance in the UK and the EU, possesses strong technical skills, in order to work seamlessly together with colleagues in multiple departments (Legal, Finance) to support our business teams to develop comprehensive and practical tax solutions. Experience in the taxation of the digital economy and e-commerce is an advantage, adding valuable input on VAT in business projects across multiple jurisdictions in a high-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure full VAT compliance across all applicable jurisdictions, including accurate and timely preparation, submission and payment (where required) of VAT returns.
- Assist with the monitoring and set-up of VAT registrations across various jurisdictions.
- Keep up-to-date with new and emerging tax developments and ensure compliance with local rules and regulations.
- Assist with implementing changes required as a result of changes to tax legislation.
- Support on various ad-hoc advisory matters.
- Participate in cross-function projects.
- Support with identifying, assessing and managing VAT risks associated with business operations and transactions, implementing strategies to mitigate them.
- Proactively identify tax issues from details and communicate upwards in a clear and concise manner.
- Work closely with Finance teams to raise awareness of VAT issues, provide guidance on invoicing and the review of VAT accounting entries and ledgers.
- Help co-ordinate with external advisors and service providers to ensure timely and accurate tax filings in the UK and EU.
- Assist with tax compliance queries from TikTok businesses across Europe and support the business in providing tax advice on a variety of projects and product launches.
- Assist in correspondence with local tax authorities, including coordinating responses to compliance and audit enquiries.
- Assist with tax technology implementations and automations with ERP and IT systems, to drive efficiency and improve end-to-end tax compliance processes and controls.
Minimum qualifications:
- 3+ years relevant experience in indirect tax compliance gained from working in-house or within a professional services firm.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Ability to clearly communicate tax technical issues to non-tax professionals.
Preferred qualifications:
- Good understanding of UK indirect tax principles and EU rules.
- Experience in the digital economy and e-commerce would be an advantage.
