The Charles River Pollution Control District, a regional medium-sized advanced wastewater treatment facility, designed to treat 5.7 MGD, is seeking a candidate for the full-time position of Wastewater Operator. The position requires that the successful candidate possess or obtain within six months of hire at least a Grade 4M Massachusetts Wastewater Operator License; on-the-job training and classes will be provided. The candidate will also be required to possess or obtain a 2A and 3A Massachusetts Hoisting License within the first six months of hire. Training will be provided.
Responsibilities (not a complete list of duties):
- Oversight and operation of treatment plant equipment
- Making adjustments to plant processes to maintain permit compliance
- Recording readings of instruments and plant equipment
- Operation of the sludge thickening process
- Oversight of chemical deliveries
- Assisting other departments as needed
Skills and Abilities:
- Minimum high school diploma
- Interpret process data and make adjustments to maintain permit compliance
- Work well in a team-oriented environment while also being able to work independently
- Be safety conscious
- Use a computer to access and make changes in SCADA, perform data entry into the process control computer software database, etc.
- Understand/execute written and oral instructions and read/understand technical instructions and manuals
- Operate equipment specific to Departmental needs and requirements, after receiving training
- Complete physical tasks, including but not limited to, pulling or lifting 50 lbs, climbing a ladder and performing confined space entry
Weekend, holiday shifts and on-call are required; additional compensation will be provided. Hourly rate ranges from $23/hour – $30/hour and will be based upon experience and qualifications. Valid driver's license required.
