Role Overview
The Projects Engineering Department is responsible for the design and delivery of PAVA and control systems comprising of the products of our client and their suppliers. The systems are designed, built and tested in-house before being dispatched to customers.
The Systems Test Engineer will support the Project Engineering team to deliver a bespoke control system for the management of an underground rail network. You will support the development of testing, moving to factory acceptance testing and site acceptance testing, and work closely with the Test team and Project Managers to ensure the system is delivered to specification and on time. Other duties will include coordinating with and providing support to other areas of the organisation, including the Software Development team. This role requires attendance at the company’s facility in East Sussex and at the facility of their end customer based in Glasgow.
Responsibilities
- Configuring control system with 3rd party communication systems (CCTV, building management, passenger help point and public address systems)
- Producing testing documentation to support test and delivery phases
- Designing and supporting customer upgrade and migration plans
- Supporting the commissioning of the system in its final location where required
- Supporting Project Manager to deliver the project on time and to specification
- Supporting any ongoing maintenance and support obligations
- Ensuring compliance with health & safety standards / regulations and that contractual obligations are met
- Ensuring you adopt a full ownership end-to-end culture
Experience Required
- Experience in an engineering / technical role within software project development and testing
- Working knowledge of Linux (Ubuntu)
- Experience writing software test documentation (e.g. factory acceptance testing [FAT])
- Experience performing system testing, both in factories and on site
- Experience working with customers, colleagues and stakeholders to resolve technical and logistical problems, taking a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions
- Experience reporting and managing technical risks and issues and their mitigations throughout the project lifecycle

Education & Qualifications
The candidate will hold a higher education qualification in a relevant subject such as Engineering or Computer Science or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience. They will also be able to spend extended periods (5-10 days) working at the customer facility in Glasgow, including occasional weekend working.
