We are seeking a motivated and imaginative Senior Systems Engineer to play a pivotal role in the development and delivery of advanced communication, data link, and ISR video management solutions. This is an exciting opportunity to join a close-knit, high-impact engineering team that thrives on solving complex problems and delivering world-class products to defence and aerospace customers. You’ll work across the full engineering lifecycle — from customer requirements analysis and system architecture design, through to technical support for business development and certification support.
The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable engaging with customers as they are in technical problem solving and system definition.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out analysis of customer requirements to provide technical solutions and documentation supporting the business development and sales process.
- Act as a technical resource for the ECS Data Link portfolio, including COFDM video and audio radio downlink systems and ISR video management systems.
- Serve as a technical authority in RF coverage planning, using industry-standard RF simulation and plotting tools to assess and optimise system performance.
- Support sales and marketing activities by attending trade shows and customer demonstrations, delivering technical presentations and product training courses, and producing engineering notes, white papers, and application guides on ECS products and use cases.
- Contribute to systems engineering activities across the full lifecycle—from bid and proposal through architecture, verification, and delivery.
- Collaborate with RF, hardware, software, and mechanical engineering teams to ensure the system-level design meets customer and certification requirements.
- Apply knowledge of DO-160G aircraft certification standards and procedures in the development and qualification of airborne products.
- Maintain a clear system-level vision through all project phases, managing trade-offs and ensuring coherent integration across subsystems.
- Support process improvement, documentation, and design review activities to strengthen engineering governance.
Proven experience in systems engineering, ideally within secure communications, defence electronics, or aerospace systems. Solid understanding of requirements capture, system architecture, interface control, and verification & validation. Familiarity with RF systems, video data links, and airborne communication standards. Working knowledge of DO-160G and certification of avionics or airborne systems. Proficiency in RF coverage modelling using tools such as ICs Telecom, EDX, or equivalent. Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Capable of working independently and collaboratively across multi-disciplinary teams. Demonstrated experience in supporting bids, customer proposals, and technical sales activities. Experience with video compression, streaming, and ISR data management. Knowledge of data link encryption, modulation schemes, and RF propagation. Prior involvement in military or government communications projects. Exposure to configuration management and ISO-certified engineering processes.
