We are seeking an energetic Head of English to inspire the next generation of critical thinkers and creative writers. The role focuses on leading high‑quality teaching and learning across Key Stage Three and Key Stage Four, with a strong tradition of success in AQA English Language and Literature and opportunities in the Sixth Form.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the English Department, fostering innovation and excellent teaching and learning.
- Drive creativity and enjoyment in KS3 through imaginative approaches to reading, writing and speaking; nurture independent, enthusiastic learners.
- Maintain and improve student achievement in KS4, with support for AQA English Language and Literature; promote a dynamic learning environment and enrichment opportunities.
- Oversee the Sixth Form, supporting students pursuing English literature at A Level (e.g., OCR English Literature A Level) and contributing to the school’s strong tradition of success.
- Collaborate with staff to provide theatre trips, visiting authors, creative writing clubs and other enrichment activities.
- Lead a team of teachers and associate staff, promoting professional development and a positive, inclusive department culture.
- Participate in school life beyond the classroom, including engagement with the wider school environment and community.

- Proven experience in a leadership role within an English department or similar area, with a track record of improving teaching and learning outcomes.
