We are looking for a dynamic Media Communications Officer to join our dedicated communications team. In this pivotal role, you will work closely with colleagues across communications and other departments to develop and deliver impactful communications plans to help engage and influence key audiences, with the ultimate goal of supporting the organisation to protect the public and support health and care professionals to deliver safe and high-quality care.

We are looking for a dynamic Media Communications Officer to join our dedicated communications team. In this pivotal role, you will work closely with colleagues across communications and other departments to develop and deliver impactful communications plans to help engage and influence key audiences, with the ultimate goal of supporting the organisation to protect the public and support health and care professionals to deliver safe and high-quality care.
Specialising in media and public relations support, you will work as part of a small close-knit communications team. You will have experience of building effective working relationships with journalists, responding to media queries and identifying proactive opportunities, and of communicating complex topics in a clear and engaging way.
You will be managing multiple projects at any one time, developing communications plans and compelling narratives for key areas of our work. You will draw on data, case studies, and storytelling techniques to help bring our work to life for a wide range of audiences. The role is wide and varied with responsibilities ranging from drafting and selling in stories, through to supporting at events, and providing advice to colleagues on media and communication matters.

Purpose and Main Duties In this role, you will deliver timely, clear and impactful communication plans and activities through:
Requirements
Working closely with colleagues from across the organisation, to deliver pro-active and reactive communications activity across a number of channels Developing core narratives and lines to take for campaigns and key topic areas, translating complex materials into clear, engaging, and easy to understand messages. Monitoring the press inbox, and responding to queries from journalists, in a way that protects and enhances the organisation\’s reputation. Establishing effective working relationships with relevant journalists and identifying opportunities to share proactive positive stories and examples of our work through media outlets/HCPC channels/externally owned channels. Drafting and editing copy for a wide range of channels, adapting style where necessary, to ensure messages land with impact. Using storytelling, case studies, data, and trusted voices to help bring our work (in particular our standards) to life. Identifying opportunities to engage our target audiences. Working closely with Health & Care Professions Tribunal Service to provide media relations support and advice for relevant Fitness to Practice cases. Candidate Requirements We\’re looking for someone who:
Has proven experience in a media or communications role, ideally within the public or not-for-profit sector. Is an excellent writer and storyteller, with the ability to craft clear, compelling messages tailored to different audiences and channels. Understands the UK media landscape and how to engage effectively with journalists including experience in drafting press releases, pitching stories, and handling media enquiries. Is proactive, organised, and able to manage multiple priorities under pressure. Adopts a collaborative approach, with the ability to build strong working relationships across teams and with external stakeholders. Demonstrates sound judgement and political awareness, particularly when dealing with sensitive or high-profile issues.Location: London-based hybrid role requiring 1-2 office days per week at our Kennington office.
