Role Overview
Mechanical Design Engineer / Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Harrogate (Hybrid). With over 25 years of combined experience, our client is a leading MEP services design consultancy providing sustainable long-term building and engineering solutions. The business has strong YoY growth and a diverse client base across sectors including education, commercial, industrial, local authority, HMP, residential, healthcare, infrastructure, utilities, and leisure. They are seeking a capable engineer to join the team and contribute to design delivery and project success.
Responsibilities
- Manage workload and technical standard of local design engineering with support from the Project Lead and Manager.
- Produce fee proposals and monitor resource profile and project profitability with support to develop these skills.
- Lead the full design of mechanical (and possibly electrical) services including drawings, calculations, contractors' proposals, and supporting documentation for pricing and construction stages.
- Work towards chartership where applicable.
- Support the Lead Engineer with input to monthly management reports.
- Support Directors with design queries and participate in regular design meetings.
- Attend design meetings with clients to discuss briefs and proposed work.
- Arrange required survey work and prepare contractors proposals.
- Prepare drawings and technical backup for planning applications.
- Design mechanical services (calculations, layout drawings, specifications) and conduct design reviews in line with QA documents.
- Participate in project handover, defect inspections, and training on sustainable technology.
- Provide technical presentations to end users, clients, and staff.
- On BIM-enabled projects, follow ISO 19650 roles and the project BIM Execution Plan (BEP).

Experience / Qualifications
- Proven ability to support managers.
- Formal qualifications covering Mechanical Building Services with substantial experience in design and calculation of HVAC, domestic cold & hot water services, above-ground drainage and utilities.
- Computer literate with AutoCAD and design software such as hevacomp or IES; Revit MEP is preferred (not essential).
- Full mechanical design scope (RIBA stages 1-7); knowledge of building management systems (BMS) is a plus.
