We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Firearms Instructor to deliver comprehensive firearms and specialist training to Firearms Officers across three police forces (Avon and Somerset, Gloucestershire, and Wiltshire). You will be passionate about delivering effective training and assessment to enable our officers to become qualified firearms officers. This role involves researching, designing, and delivering training courses in accordance with the National Police Firearms Training Curriculum (NPFTC). You will also be responsible for maintaining all ranges, operational and training equipment, and reporting any faults with vehicles and related equipment. The position is based at Blackrock Specialist Training Centre in Portishead, a state-of-the-art firearms training facility with excellent transport links to the South West, Wales, and Bristol.

Qualifications Required:

  • National Police Firearms Training Certificate (within the last 3 years)
  • Teaching or training qualification to NVQ Level 3 in Training and Development
  • Willingness to achieve IOSH (Managing safely) within 12 months
  • Enhanced First Aid qualification with annual re-qualification

Skills And Experience Required:

  • Excellent communication skills, including written and presentation skills
  • Experience delivering training to individuals and groups
  • Strong IT skills with experience maintaining training records
  • Experience conducting risk assessments
  • Ability to maintain firearms and training equipment
  • Research and course design experience (desirable)
  • Fitness Test Pass at level 3.7

Additional Information:

  • Based at Blackrock, Portishead, but required to deliver training across the Tri-force area
  • Full valid driving licence or alternative transport means required
  • Maintain CPD records and relevant accreditations
  • Attend annual hearing and eyesight tests and meet fitness standards
  • Maintain ARV and instructor qualification standards set by the College of Policing
