ABOUT THE ROLE:
We are looking for a design leader to help shape the experience for key areas of the member experience as the Tide app continues to evolve across 55+ products. As a Product Design Manager, you will act as a true player/coach across 1-2 key product domains (groups of products). You will lead and mentor a team of 4 to 8 Product Designers integrated into individual products across the domains. We are looking for an empowering people manager, who is passionate about the craft. You are ready to jump into the details and lead hands-on design for critical strategic initiatives while balancing supporting your team & resourcing. You will also work closely with both your domain leaders and design managers in other domains to help build cohesive experiences across Tide. Flexible hybrid model with an expectation of visiting our London office 2–4 times a month.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Lead and Build the Team: Coach, develop, and set actionable career goals for a team of 4 to 8 Product Designers. You will also actively manage resourcing, balance team workloads, and drive hiring to scale the design function.
- Act as a Player/Coach: Jump into the details and lead hands-on design work for specific, critical strategic initiatives, diving into Figma to deliver validated, high-impact member experiences.
- Shape the Domain Experience: Partner closely with domain leads (PMs and Engineering) to define OKRs, prioritize roadmaps, and craft the overarching strategy and experience for your specific domains.
- Ensure a Connected App Experience: Collaborate closely with design managers in other domains to align patterns, share insights, and guarantee a seamless, connected journey across the entire app.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
- Proven Design Leadership: Track record of managing or leading product designers in a fast-paced SaaS, fintech, or scale-up environment. You have demonstrable experience of hiring and developing designers, managing resourcing across your team, and balancing team support with strategic project delivery.
- Player/Coach Mentality: Strong portfolio showing both strategic product thinking and top-tier UI/UX execution.
- Agile & Autonomous: Highly comfortable navigating ambiguity and collaborating with cross-functional peers in an agile setup.
- Ownership & influence: Experience balancing user and business needs, working closely with senior stakeholders. You know how to manage trade-offs between in-depth work and quick wins or experiments.
- End-to-End Design Workflow & AI: Deep experience working across the full, evolving design lifecycle—from research, concepts, prototyping, testing, and handover. You are also excited to pioneer the inclusion of AI in our processes, leveraging it from early design flows right through to pushing code changes.
- Small business knowledge (desirable): You understand personally the challenge we’re trying to solve, in having experience of designing for small businesses or even better, having worked around small businesses yourself.
WHAT YOU’LL GET IN RETURN:
- Competitive Compensation: Competitive salary and share options.
- Time Off: Generous annual leave on top of bank holidays.
- Parental Leave: Paid maternity, paternity, and adoption leave to support your family journey.
- Sabbatical: Extended unpaid and paid leave options after completing milestone years with Tide.
- Access to salary sacrifice benefits: like Nursery (could save up to 47% on fees!) and Cycle to Work discounts.
- Health Insurance: Comprehensive Private family insurance plan.
- Life & Accident Cover: Comprehensive accidental and life insurance protection.
- Mental Wellbeing: Access to therapy sessions, courses, meditations, and workshops.
- Retirement Planning: Build your retirement fund faster with Tide’s pension scheme on eligible earnings.
- Volunteering & Development Days: Paid days annually for volunteering or personal growth.
- Learning & Development: Annual budget for books, courses, coaching, and more.
- WOO (Work Outside the Office): Work from abroad for up to 90 days annually.
- Home Office Setup: Contribution towards setting up your home office.
- Laptop Ownership: Keep your old laptop and get a new one when it’s time for a replacement.
