TidalSense is a respiratory technology company with a mission to transform the diagnosis, monitoring and management of chronic respiratory conditions, such as asthma and COPD. The company has ambitions to enable a population‑scale change in respiratory care through global deployment of its technologies. TidalSense has launched the first‑of‑its‑kind AI‑driven (software medical device) diagnostic test for COPD which uses the company’s unique, patented, sensor technology embedded in the N‑Tidal Handset medical device.

Job Purpose

To play a key role in shaping the company’s financial health and operational efficiency. To execute budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting and cost analysis, helping the leadership team make data‑driven decisions. To collate management accounts, and grant and CSR reporting, ensuring the business is compliant with our legal and contractual obligations.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Accountable for executing key management accounting tasks, including:
  • Running the sales ledger ensuring customers are billed promptly in accordance with internal procedures and credit terms are adhered to
  • Managing the purchase ledger and outsourced bookkeepers ensuring payments are made efficiently and smooth running of the ledger
  • Ensuring the trial balance and associated reporting is updated on a monthly basis including monthly accruals and prepayments schedules and other balance sheet reconciliations
  • Assisting with monthly payroll
  • Preparing monthly management accounts, forecasts, and variance analyses
  • Supporting the annual budgeting process and quarterly reforecasting
  • Providing monthly reports to heads of departments tracking expenditure against budget
  • Supporting development and refining of financial models to evaluate business performance and new initiatives
  • Other adhoc finance and admin tasks as required
  • Delivering financial reporting to ensure legal and contractual compliance, including:
    • Maintaining accurate and timely financial records in accordance with accounting standards
    • Supporting the year‑end reporting including the provision of information for the external audit, statutory accounts and corporation tax return
    • Preparing management reports, KPI dashboards, and board presentations
    • Assisting with external audits and grant reporting
    • Assisting with investor queries and reporting, including CSR reporting
  • Supporting process improvement within the Finance function, including:
    • Supporting implementation of scalable financial systems and reporting tools
    • Streamlining accounting workflows and strengthening internal controls

    Requirements

    Essential Skills & Competencies

    • Strong analytical and Excel skills, including financial modelling skills
    • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
    • Resilience and flexibility to work in a busy and changing / dynamic environment with ability to deal with workload peaks and troughs
    • Ability to multi‑task, organise, and prioritise work
    • Pro‑active with effective organisational skills and priority setting
    • Knowledge of UK VAT
    • Familiar with using generative AI tools (in work or personal context), preferably working with AI agent workflows

    Desirable Skills & Competencies

    • Experience in a medtech or startup environment
    • Experience in a manufacturing company
    • Knowledge of R&D tax credits, grant funding, and medical device regulatory environments

    Qualifications & Experience

    Essential Qualifications

    • ACA / ACCA / CIMA (qualified or part‑qualified) or equivalent professional certification
    • 3+ years of experience in management accounting

    Desirable Experience

    • Experience with Xero and ApprovalMax
    • Experience working in an early‑stage or growth phase company

    Other Requirements

    • Legally eligible to work in the UK without sponsorship
    • Will need to be able to work in person in the Cambridge office at least 60% of working hours

    Salary

    £38,000‑50,000 pa (pro‑rated and depending on experience). TidalSense operates a fair pay structure to ensure our colleagues are paid equitably and competitively for their skill, expertise and experience. Successful candidates will be this role at the appropriate grade, based on both their resume experience and our judgement of their performance level through the assessment process.
