Job Role
A wheel & tyre fitter will efficiently and safely fit, balance, and install wheel and tyre assemblies in accordance with company procedures and TIA safety standards, ensuring quality workmanship and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Remove and replace wheels and tyres on a variety of vehicles, including passenger cars, light trucks, and commercial vehicles.
- Mount, demount, and balance tyres using appropriate machinery and TIA-approved procedures.
- Inspect wheels, rims, and tyre assemblies for wear, damage, and compliance with specifications.
- Inflate tyres to recommended pressures, using calibrated equipment and adhering to safety protocols.
- Torque wheel nuts/bolts to manufacturer specifications.
- Assist with wheel alignments when required.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work environment.
- Follow all occupational health and safety regulations and TIA best practices.
- Provide professional customer service when interacting with clients.
- Accurately complete job cards, service reports, and any related documentation.
Skills & Qualifications
- Proven experience as a wheel/tyre fitter or similar role.
- TIA certification (Passenger & Light Truck or Commercial Tyre Service) preferred.
- Knowledge of wheel balancing, tyre mounting, and demounting procedures.
- Understanding of torque specifications and wheel fastening sequences.
- Ability to operate tyre changers, wheel balancers, and related workshop tools.
- Good physical stamina and manual dexterity.
- Strong attention to detail and safety.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and handle tyres and wheels up 50kg safely.
- Standing, bending, and moving for extended periods.
- Use of protective equipment (gloves, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, hearing protection).
- Workshop/garage setting with exposure to noise, dust, and vehicle fumes.
- May require occasional roadside service work, depending on role.
