We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Commodity Manager to lead the sourcing and procurement strategy for aluminium products and services. This is a strategic role focused on securing supply continuity, managing supplier relationships, driving cost competitiveness, and supporting business growth through effective procurement and market intelligence. The successful candidate will work closely with internal stakeholders across sales, operations, quality, logistics, and finance while developing strong partnerships with key aluminium mills, extrusion manufacturers, and strategic suppliers. This role involves international travel around 6 times per year.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement commodity strategies aligned with business objectives and market conditions.
- Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, including shortages, capacity constraints, geopolitical factors, and supplier dependency.
- Lead supplier qualification, onboarding, and development to expand the approved supplier base.
- Lead contract negotiations to secure competitive pricing, favourable terms, and supply continuity.
- Analyse RFQs and market opportunities to maximise margins and support business growth.
- Manage supplier performance through KPIs, audits, and continuous improvement programmes.
- Collaborate with sales, operations, quality, and logistics teams to meet customer requirements efficiently.
- Monitor aluminium indices, billet premiums, alloy surcharges, and FX impacts to support pricing decisions.
- Drive supplier improvements in quality, delivery performance, and cost competitiveness.
- Conduct benchmarking to assess supplier performance, market competitiveness, and sourcing opportunities.
- Support sustainability goals through responsible sourcing and increased use of recycled and low-carbon aluminium.
- Prepare and present commodity reports, market intelligence, and procurement strategies to senior management.
- Ensure compliance with procurement policies, contractual obligations, and industry regulations.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key aluminium mills, extrusion manufacturers, and strategic suppliers.
- Support new business opportunities through competitive quotations and sourcing solutions.
- Work closely with finance teams on budgeting, forecasting, and cost management activities.
- Lead monthly supplier reviews and implement performance improvement plans where required.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Must be able to demonstrate a good level of experience in material planning.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with both the supply chain and colleagues.
- Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy is essential.
- Working within a culture of continual improvement, must have the ability to bring a fresh set of ideas.
- Determined, focused and positive attitude.
- Proficient in using MS applications including Excel, Outlook.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Experience of import/export customs procedures preferable.
- Experience of SAP stock systems.
