The DS-Plus Early Intervention Educator integrates a range of teaching and learning approaches and identifies new approaches to conduct lessons/activities for children in the preschool setting. The key roles include:
- Providing opportunities for children to reinforce skills like speech and language skills, socio-communication skills, fine and gross motor skills, literacy skills, and self-help skills in the preschool settings.
- Enriching children's learning through implementing curriculum, and adapting and integrating developmentally appropriate teaching and classroom engagement strategies.
- Creating quality natural learning environments and facilitating children's development and learning in the preschool.
- Partnering with families and caregivers and coordinating with community stakeholders and social service providers to support the delivery of Centre initiatives, programmes, and services.
- Carrying out data collection for inquiry projects.
- Being thoughtful, calm, and loving working with children while possessing strong interpersonal skills.
- Working in varied settings such as in Early Intervention Centres and/or preschools.
- Working in a transdisciplinary team in the course of his/her work.
Job Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement curriculum and programmes.
- Integrate a range of teaching and learning approaches to meet diverse needs of children with developmental needs.
- Develop activity plans and teaching materials that are appropriate to use in preschool.
- Adapt a range of developmentally appropriate materials and resources to create quality learning environments.
- Review health, safety, nutritional, and hygiene practices in accordance with standards and procedures.
- Identify new teaching and learning or inclusive approaches to suit the profile of children being taught.
- Conduct EIPIC & preschool observation, Brigance screening, and assessment of children's strengths and needs according to their developmental milestones.
- Prepare DS-Plus timeline and IEP based on screening and observation outcomes and discuss with EIPIC team (for Step-down cases) and preschool teachers.
- Prepare for the presentation of screening outcomes.
- Manage family and community programmes.
- Identify learning strategies for family and community (i.e., preschool) programmes and initiatives.
- Suggest strategies for family and community on child's needs, with trans-disciplinary team consultations.
- Support or co-plan the development of outreach activities to create awareness of centre programmes and services.
- Implement centre, family, and community initiatives and programmes.
- Uplift professional practice of early intervention teaching.
- Engage in systematic reflective practice.
- Support the implementation of new intervention methods, tools, and assistive technologies based on emerging Early Intervention and sector trends.
- Collect data for consolidation and refinement.
- Support conceptualisation of inquiry projects.
- Provide feedback on applicability of proposed teaching and intervention practices based on inquiry findings.
- Share suggestions to improve DS-Plus processes.
- Deliver interventions.
- Prepare children's e-files, reports (i.e., IEP, Weekly Progress Monitoring, Email updates, Transition Report, Discharge Report) and closure of cases.
- Deliver interventions using appropriate methods, tools, and assistive technologies to support learning under supervision.
- Deliver appropriate strategies/activities at preschools using inclusive practices/strategies; supervision will be provided to ensure smooth delivery of intervention.
- Implement appropriate classroom engagement strategies.
- Track children's learning progress, goals, and family priorities in coordination with other social service and healthcare professionals.
- Write and submit reports (i.e., GCO summary, IEP, School Report, Discharge Report etc.), update SSNet data in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with families and stakeholders across disciplines.
- Partner with families and caregivers to enhance child and family outcomes.
- Coordinate centre activities with teachers, support staff, volunteers, social service, and healthcare professionals.
- Coordinate with community stakeholders, volunteers, and social service providers to support the implementation of programmes and services.
- Conduct discussions or meetings (i.e., IEP meeting, Case Conferences, Joint-Meeting with Aops, etc.) weekly review as a key worker.
- Work in Transition Support workplan to improve Transition Support programme.
- Co-plan activities with the preschool teachers to model the strategies.
- Provide coaching to parents & preschool teachers to work on the strategies at home or in class.
Qualifications:
- Specialist Diploma in Early Childhood Intervention (Special Needs) (SDESN) or ADESN.
- Degree or Diploma in Early Childhood Education, Special Education or related fields from recognised institutions.
Other Information:
- 1 to 3 years of experience working with families and children in a preschool or early intervention setting.
- Mature, independent, creative, flexible thinking, and able to motivate children.
- Good people skills.
- Able to work independently.
- Good understanding of diverse cultures and races.
- Patience, love, passion, and commitment in the education of and nurturing young children and empowering families.
- Valid First Aid Certificate preferred.
- Keen to develop professionally.
