We require an enthusiastic, practical & pro‑active Engineer. This is a workshop-based role, with the primary function to clean, inspect, maintain and repair a very broad range of electrical hire tools and lighting. This role will be responsible for taking ownership and helping us supervise and guide the team and grow the Electrical section of the business. This is a hands‑on role for someone with electrical understanding and experience to work under the Workshop Controller and Workshop Manager alongside the other section Supervisors.
Key responsibilities:
- Cleaning and maintaining the presentation of equipment.
- Inspecting and testing returning hire equipment.
- PAT testing.
- Repairing of electrical tools.
- Working with the team to set and improve systems and procedures.
- Using a computer‑based system for administration.
- Supporting and training the Electrical team.
- Helping the Electrical team ensure their KPIs are met in terms of quality and quantity.
- Working with the Workshop Supervisors to ensure the whole workshop KPIs are achieved.
- Taking an active role in stock checks and ensuring the parts required for your section are correctly consumed and stocked.
- Day to day management of the Electrical team.
Essential Person specification:
- Previous experience in the maintenance and/or repair of a range of electrical equipment and tools.
- Electrical hands‑on experience with lighting – battery, 110 and 240 volt small tools.
- Understanding of PAT testing.
- The ability to fault‑find electrical equipment.
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Strong understanding of electrical safety standards and compliance.
- Practical understanding and mindset with the ability to work quickly and methodically.
- Good computer skills.
- Business experience or understanding.
- Experience in cleaning, organising, and tidying.
- Physically fit and hard‑working team player.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Analytical thinking and ability to make decisions under pressure.
- Collaborative mindset with a willingness to support others.
- Ability to concentrate whilst doing repetitive tasks.
Desirable:
- NVQ (or similar qualification) in a related field.
- Willingness to learn.
- Exposure to Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement initiatives.
