Job Summary
We are seeking a hands-on and proactive Operations Manager to oversee the daily operations of our warehouse facility. This role is critical to ensuring efficient inventory control, accurate and timely customer shipments, a secure site, and full compliance with health and safety standards. A valid forklift licence is essential. This role is a key part of our senior leadership team.
Key Responsibilities
- Warehouse Operations: Manage day-to-day warehouse activities including goods-in, storage, picking, packing, and dispatch. Ensure accurate and timely shipment of goods to meet customer expectations. Maintain an efficient warehouse layout to optimise workflow and space utilisation.
- Stock Control: Maintain accurate stock levels, including cycle counts and regular stocktakes. Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies. Support continuous improvement of stock management processes.
- Health & Safety: Ensure compliance with all H&S regulations and company safety policies. Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits. Promote a safe working culture and lead by example.
- Site Security: Act as key holder with responsibility for site opening and closing procedures. Ensure the security of premises, stock, and company assets. Monitor site access and report any security issues.
- Forklift Operations: Operate forklifts safely and efficiently. Maintain forklift and material handling equipment in accordance with safety standards.
- Team Leadership: Supervise warehouse staff, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and safely. Provide training, support, and clear direction to the team. Support recruitment and development of warehouse personnel.
The successful candidate will:
- Lead and maintain ISO accreditation processes (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO14001), ensuring continuous compliance and quality management improvements.
- Ensure UK compliance with NHS Evergreen and Cyber Essentials requirements.
- Play a key role in shaping company procedures and operational best practices.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in warehouse management or supervision.
- Valid forklift licence (counterbalance and/or reach).
- Strong knowledge of warehouse operations, logistics, and stock control.
- Understanding of Health & Safety legislation and site security protocols.
- Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
- IT literacy, including familiarity with warehouse or ERP systems.
- Must be local to Tunbridge Wells to support alarm call-outs and opening/closing.
Desirable:
- Experience managing or working alongside customer service teams.
- Familiarity with ISO standards, particularly ISO 9001.
- First Aid or Fire Marshal certification.
- Degree educated.
