The predicted salary is between 45 - 55 Β£ per hour.

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly and supportive practice. The successful candidate will provide high quality medical and surgical care to companion animals. You will play a key role in delivering exceptional patient care, promoting animal welfare, and building trusted relationships with clients.

Key responsibilities
  • Conduct consultations, clinical examinations, and health assessments for small animal patients.
  • Diagnose and treat a wide range of medical conditions and injuries.
  • Develop and implement appropriate treatment and preventative healthcare plans.
  • Perform routine minor surgical procedures.
  • Manage emergency and critical care cases as required.
  • Prescribe and administer medications in accordance with professional guidelines.
  • Interpret diagnostic tests, including blood work, radiography, ultrasound, and laboratory results.
Preventative healthcare
  • Deliver vaccination programmes and annual health checks.
  • Advise clients on nutrition, parasite control, behaviour, and general pet care.
  • Promote preventative healthcare initiatives to improve patient wellbeing.
Client communication
  • Explain diagnoses, treatment options, costs, and prognoses clearly and professionally.
  • Provide compassionate support to clients during difficult decisions, including end of life care and euthanasia discussions.
  • Maintain high standards of customer service and client satisfaction.
Teamwork and leadership
  • Work collaboratively within the team.
  • Support and mentor junior colleagues and newly qualified veterinary surgeons where appropriate.
  • Participate in clinical meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Compliance and professional standards
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive clinical records.
  • Ensure compliance with the standards of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
  • Adhere to practice protocols, health and safety regulations, and animal welfare legislation.
  • Always uphold professional and ethical standards.
Continuing professional development
  • Engage in ongoing CPD activities to maintain and develop clinical knowledge and skills.
  • Keep up to date with advancements in small animal medicine and surgery.
  • Contribute to clinical audits and quality assurance programmes.
Requirements
  • Degree in Veterinary Medicine.
  • Current registration with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
  • Strong clinical and surgical skills in small animal practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to delivering outstanding patient care and animal welfare.
  • Previous experience in small animal practice.
