It is a super exciting time to join us as we begin to deliver two newly awarded Smoking Cessation support services across Hampshire and The Isle of Wight, and we are looking for a Community Smoking Cessation Lead to join us!
Our programme is designed to support residents of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight access the support they need to stop smoking. This can be done through several approaches and will include the supply of Nicotine Replacement Therapies (NRT) being sent to them, combining these with digital, remote or face-to-face appointments with Stop Smoking Advisors to support them to ensure their quit attempt is successful.
As the Community Stop Smoking Lead, you will play a pivotal role in the delivery and development of high-quality smoking cessation services across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. This role will provide high-level strategic leadership, expert knowledge, and line management/leadership to a team of community stop smoking advisors to ensure all contractual targets are met. Your team will be responsible for embedding the service across the contract areas, ensuring fantastic relationships are forged within the local communities and primary healthcare settings.
Reporting into the Head of Service, you will offer supportive, empowering leadership to your team, ensuring they offer a gold standard stop smoking service to residents of Hampshire & the Isle of Wight, from appropriate community-based locations. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the service delivers evidence-based interventions, maintains high standards of clinical practice, contributes to the ongoing development of the service, whilst meeting its targets.
A typical day as a Community Smoking Lead might include:
- Leadership and Expertise: Develop an accessible, targeted community-based delivery network that appeals to our priority groups, covering Hampshire and The Isle of Wight. Implement and maintain clinical protocols and guidelines, ensuring adherence to national and local standards. Work with partner organisations and colleagues in Primary and Secondary care to maintain client uptake and meet targets. Form part of Hampshire & Isle of Wight’s Management Team, working closely with the Head of Service and wider Gloji Smokefree colleagues, to focus on strategic and operational development. Lead on the implementation of new and innovative smoking cessation interventions. Conduct clinical audits and reviews to evaluate service effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
- Team Management and Supervision: Provide leadership and supervision to a team of community stop smoking advisors. Lead team meetings and facilitate effective communication and collaboration within the team. Foster a positive and supportive working environment, further enhancing our working culture.
- Training and Development: Identify and address the training needs of the team, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver effective interventions. Contribute to the development of training materials and resources. Support the ongoing professional development of the team, including facilitating access to relevant training and conferences.
- Quality and Clinical Governance: Lead on the development and implementation of quality improvement initiatives. Ensure compliance with all relevant clinical governance standards and policies. Monitor and evaluate service performance against key performance indicators. Contribute to the development and implementation of service policies and procedures. Investigate and respond to complaints and incidents in a timely and professional manner. Ensure accurate and timely data collection and reporting.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, commissioners, and community organisations. Represent the service at relevant meetings and forums. Contribute to the development of local smoking cessation strategies. Work with colleagues across all Thrive Tribe services to contribute to new projects and service developments. Ensure consideration is given to Information Governance and Clinical Governance legislation, requirements, and guidance. Help us maintain the ethos of Thrive Tribe by driving our organisational culture forward across our services and embedding our values.

To work with us in this role, you will have extensive experience in the field of smoking cessation, and/or preventative healthcare services underpinned by evidence-based behaviour change support. You will have in-depth knowledge of evidence-based smoking cessation interventions and guidelines, with proven experience in providing supervision and leadership. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills are essential for this role, and will be required both internally (across the local team) and externally (across our stakeholder networks). A formal qualification in smoking cessation (e.g. NCSCT Specialist Training) is required but can also be provided to the right candidate. Experience in developing and delivering training programs, conducting clinical audits and service evaluations, and a strong knowledge of the local health and social care system are desirable. However, we hire based on attitude over traditional skills and experience so if you feel you are right for the job please submit an application.

Contract: Full Time (37.5 hours), Permanent. Salary: Starting at £31,000 with the banding rising to £33,000 per year.
Location: This role is home-based but will require regular travel throughout Hampshire. The role requires applicants to be a car driver and have access to a car for this role. On occasion, travel to the Isle of Wight will also be required. Please note, the successful applicant will be required to have the right to work in the UK.
