Term: Temporary to Permanent role

Rate: £12.71 per hour before going permanent

About the Role

We are working on behalf of a well-established, nationally operating specialist in non-mechanical plant hire and associated support services, supplying the construction, civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities and industrial sectors. With a strong depot network and in-house engineering and manufacturing capability, this business takes real pride in product quality, compliance and operational excellence.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a hands-on Machine Shop Operator to join the team at one of their UK depot locations. This is a role for someone who enjoys working with their hands, takes pride in doing a job properly, and is comfortable in a busy, practical workshop environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Operating specialist machinery including a Road Form Machine, Shot Blast Units and Trench Sheet Press
  • Carrying out repairs to road forms and trench sheets as required
  • Loading and unloading plant safely using a counterbalance forklift
  • Conducting pre-start machine checks and maintaining machinery to a high standard, including grit levels, lubrication and dust collectors
  • Grinding and welding to repair road forms, and trimming trench sheets
  • Applying mould oil and shrink-wrapping plant as required
  • General plant cleaning including pressure washing
  • Ensuring plant is correctly stored and stacked at all times
  • Keeping your working area clean, tidy and compliant with health and safety requirements
  • Wearing and maintaining company-issued PPE in a clean and serviceable condition
  • Supporting yard procedures when required

What We’re Looking For

  • A current, valid Counterbalance Forklift Certificate – this is essential
  • Practical experience working in a machine shop, workshop or similar hands-on environment
  • Confidence with welding and grinding
  • A methodical, safety-first approach to your work
  • Reliable and self-motivated with a good eye for detail
  • Comfortable working as part of a small, close-knit depot team
