We're recruiting on behalf of a well-established production/manufacturing business in the Basingstoke area for an experienced Shift Leader to take ownership of their afternoon shift. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives on keeping a production floor running smoothly — hitting output targets, maintaining quality and hygiene standards, and getting the best out of their team.
What you'll be doing:
- Lead and supervise the production team during your shift, allocating tasks and resources to meet the production plan.
- Run clear shift briefings and handovers so nothing gets lost between teams.
- Monitor output against targets, stepping in quickly to address any shortfalls.
- Support efficient changeovers and line set-up to keep downtime to a minimum.
- Maintain accurate production records using in-house systems.
- Carry out quality checks and take corrective action where needed.
- Help maintain hygiene standards across the shift, including cleaning schedules and housekeeping.
- Motivate, coach and support your team, handling performance and conduct matters in line with company procedure.
- Develop team members so they’re able to step up and cover shift leader duties when needed.
- Run toolbox talks and safety briefings, ensuring correct PPE use, and support the investigation of any accidents or near misses.
What we’re looking for:
- Previous experience in a supervisory or team leader role within a production, warehouse or manufacturing environment is essential.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Solid understanding of production processes, quality standards and health & safety requirements.
- Experience with production or warehouse management systems is desirable.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office and comfortable picking up new systems.
- Good communication skills are a must — you’ll need to motivate a team and liaise confidently across departments.
- Proactive, decisive and calm under pressure, with strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- An approachable, fair leadership style, a flexible and reliable, hands-on attitude, and a genuine commitment to quality, hygiene and safety standards.
