The predicted salary is between 18 - 20 £ per hour.

Location: Leicestershire, England

Salary: GBP18.38 - GBP20.3 per hour

Duration: Immediate start for 6 months initially, with potential to extend or transition to permanent position.

Working address: Coalville RHWS, Lount RHWS and Shepshed RHWS

Hybrid work: role is mainly field-based, travelling to RHWSs and WTSs with minimal ability to work from home or County Hall.

Working days and hours: 37 to 40 hours per week, typically Monday to Friday, with start and end times between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. as agreed with line manager.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing site staff across all council waste sites.
  • Supporting onboarding, performance reviews, policy implementation, risk assessments, occupational health referrals, and investigating disciplinary/attendance issues.
  • Delivering training through workbooks, e-learning, toolbox talks, and safety briefings.
  • Drafting, monitoring, and enforcing safe systems of work, risk assessments, and the council’s quality management system for RHWS operations.
  • Ensuring accurate recording of waste movements and compliance with environmental permits and waste duty of care.
  • Maintaining stock control of consumables, PPE, uniform, equipment and fuel.
  • Driving a council 3.5‑tonne box van when required.
  • Handling intermediate customer complaints face‑to‑face, by telephone, and by email.
  • Providing PPE and wearing a body‑worn camera (BWC) as part of field‑based staff uniform.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Good IT skills and familiarity with MS Office or equivalent.
  • Experience dealing with customers and in contract management.
  • Experience supervising and managing employees in the waste management industry or similar workplace.
  • Experience delivering training packages.
  • Valid UK driver’s licence for a vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes and access to a personal vehicle with insurance covering business use.
  • Valid and relevant Certificate of Technical Competence with evidence of continued competence.
