An excellent opportunity for an experienced Technical Sales Engineer to join a well-established precision engineering business supplying jigs, fixtures, tooling and bespoke engineered solutions into sectors including aerospace, automotive, fabrication, offshore and energy. This is a field-based, consultative sales role focused on new business development, technical solution selling and account growth across the UK.

This role is ideal for a commercially driven engineering professional who enjoys building strong customer relationships, identifying new opportunities, and working closely with clients to deliver practical solutions to real manufacturing challenges. You’ll be responsible for growing business across sectors including aerospace, automotive, fabrication, offshore and energy, helping customers improve productivity, quality and efficiency through tailored engineering solutions.

The Role

  • As Technical Sales Engineer, you will be responsible for winning and developing profitable business across the UK by identifying opportunities, understanding customer requirements and turning technical challenges into commercially viable engineering solutions.
  • You’ll work closely with customers, internal design and manufacturing teams, and key stakeholders to take projects from initial enquiry through to proposal, order and long-term account growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop new business opportunities across UK engineering and manufacturing sectors
  • Build and manage a pipeline of target accounts, prospects and active opportunities
  • Conduct customer meetings and site visits to understand production challenges and technical requirements
  • Recommend suitable jigs, fixtures and engineered solutions based on customer needs
  • Work closely with internal design and manufacturing teams to develop concepts, quotations and proposals
  • Prepare and present commercially strong proposals that clearly demonstrate technical value and return on investment
  • Negotiate pricing, terms and commercial agreements to secure new business
  • Grow and manage existing customer accounts, identifying opportunities for repeat orders, refurbishments and additional services
  • Maintain accurate CRM records, sales forecasts and account development plans
  • Act as the voice of the customer internally, supporting successful project delivery and long-term relationship development

What We’re Looking For

To be successful in this role, you’ll need a strong blend of technical understanding, commercial awareness and relationship-building ability.

Essential

  • Previous experience in a Technical Sales Engineer, Engineering Sales, Sales Engineer or Business Development role within manufacturing or engineering
  • Background in precision engineering, jigs & fixtures, tooling, workholding, metrology, machining or special-purpose machinery
  • Good understanding of mechanical drawings, machining processes and engineering/manufacturing environments
  • Proven track record of developing new business and managing customer accounts
  • Strong commercial and negotiation skills
  • Confident communicator, able to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel nationally

Desirable

  • Experience selling into sectors such as aerospace, automotive, fabrication, offshore or energy
  • HNC/HND/Degree in Mechanical / Manufacturing Engineering or a relevant apprenticeship background
  • Familiarity with CAD-led or design-led engineering solutions
  • Experience working within quality-driven manufacturing environments such as ISO 9001
