Overview

Support Worker - Disability Services (The Maples) at Threshold Services NI.

Location: The Maples. Some travel within Northern Ireland may be required to fulfil the duties of the post. Hours of work: up to 37.5 hours per working week. Salary: £12.65 per hour. Reports to: Team Leader.

Purpose: To assist the Team Leader in providing professional, high quality support to individuals with physical and learning disabilities and acquired brain injury, promoting recovery through a strengths‑based, person‑centred approach to enable independent living and achievement of potential.

Responsibilities

  • Provision of direct support, including overnight support where applicable, covering physical care, personal hygiene, daily life tasks and skills development, while championing independence and safeguarding privacy, dignity and rights.
  • Assist individuals with setting and achieving personal goals, including social inclusion and self-esteem initiatives.

Main Responsibilities of Support Worker

  • Person Centred Support: Develop and maintain positive, trusting relationships; show compassion while maintaining professional boundaries; contribute to holistic support; assist with physical and mental health wellbeing through tailored plans; involve individuals in decision making; deliver care and support to develop social, domestic, personal and community living skills.

Housing Support

  • Provide care and support to help maintain homes, tenancy adherence, meal planning, shopping and personal budgeting.
  • Assist planning, organisation and participation in individual or group activities within the scheme and community.
  • Support high standards of personal and home hygiene while respecting personal choices.
  • Assist with medication management, budgeting and meals as per support plans.

Supporting Independence

  • Empower individuals by involving them in decisions; support a person-centred approach to re-establishing identity, hope and independence.
  • Enable informed decisions and advocate for needs; liaise with external agencies for housing, signposting and referrals as appropriate.
  • Encourage participation in the local community, volunteering, training and employment opportunities where relevant.

Wellbeing

  • Promote physical and emotional wellbeing; contribute to a culture of wellbeing within the service.
  • Support an autonomous working environment and recognise achievements; adhere to safeguarding policies and escalate concerns as needed.

  • Communicate regularly with all stakeholders; ensure timely completion of service documentation.

Person Specification

Education and Professional Qualifications

  • Full driving licence (essential for with-driving roles).
  • Flexibility to work within rostered hours and be prepared to participate in on-call rota if required.
  • Prior experience of providing personal care is advantageous.
  • Registration with NISCC is required for this role.

  • Desirable: Minimum of three months (within last twelve months) supporting individuals with disabilities, or six months in a care environment.

Additional Requirements

  • Possess a current and valid driving licence or have access to transport to meet the post requirements.
  • Please note this is a regulated post and will require a satisfactory Enhanced Access NI Check. The post holder must be registered or apply for registration with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC) upon appointment.
