About Threefold Energy:

Threefold Energy helps commercial and industrial customers reduce energy costs by reshaping their site electricity demand, through intelligent hardware deployment and software-led management. We install and operate battery energy storage, managing the full lifecycle from survey to ongoing optimisation. This is a growing team, and the people who join now will have real influence over how we build and scale.

The Role:

We are building out our battery fleet across a growing portfolio of behind-the-meter sites, and we need an engineer who can help us do that well. This is not a role running individual client projects; it is a role helping us develop and execute the systems and processes that let us deploy and operate BESS at scale. You will work closely with the CTO and the wider delivery team, contributing to how we commission and configure hardware, how we connect and monitor sites, and how we build the operational practices that underpin the fleet. You will be hands-on in the field when required, and desk-based in London the rest of the time.

What You Will Do:

  • Fleet deployment: Support the rollout of battery energy storage systems across our customer portfolio, from pre-installation preparation, through commissioning, and during ongoing operations. Develop and refine the technical processes, configuration templates, and commissioning standards that allow us to deploy BESS consistently and efficiently at scale. Attend site during key installation and commissioning activities, providing technical oversight and resolving issues on the ground. Maintain clear deployment records: site documentation, configuration logs, and handover packs.
  • Hardware configuration and connectivity: Configure and commission BESS and associated communications hardware. Set up and test site communications infrastructure including 4G/LTE, Wi-Fi, and wired networking to support remote monitoring and control of the fleet. Contribute to the design and improvement of our monitoring and control architecture as the portfolio grows. Liaise with DNO and other third parties on connection approvals and technical compliance where required. Develop the processes and control measures that allow you to transition to overseeing these activities.
  • Operations and improvement: Support remote diagnostics and site revisits where hardware issues are identified post-commissioning. Feed lessons from deployment and operation back into our technical standards, procurement decisions, and system design. Help build the internal knowledge base that underpins a scalable, well-operated fleet.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Experience and qualifications: Degree or HND in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent practical experience. Some hands-on experience configuring hardware in the field: BESS, inverters, or similar energy or industrial systems. Practical knowledge of site communications: Wi-Fi networks, 4G/LTE connectivity, TCP/IP basics, and how these underpin remote monitoring. Comfortable reading single-line diagrams, equipment datasheets, and protection relay settings. Full UK driving licence.
  • Personal qualities: Methodical and thorough: you check your work and keep clear records. Straightforward communicator, able to explain a technical issue clearly to a site contractor or a client with no engineering background. Self-directed on site and proactive about flagging problems early rather than working around them. Interested in building things properly, not just getting them done.
  • Desirable (not required): Experience with behind-the-meter renewables: solar PV, BESS, G99/100. Experience with SCADA, MODBUS, or other industrial communications protocols. Familiarity with 18th Edition wiring regulations.

What We Offer:

  • A role with real scope: you will be one of the engineers who builds the deployment and operations function, not just joins it.
  • Structured support and mentoring, with a clear path for engineering career progression as the team and fleet grow.
  • Direct exposure across a varied and expanding hardware portfolio.
  • A small, direct team where your input shapes decisions.
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays.
