The Marketing Media and IP Legal team provides end-to-end legal support to Three’s Commercial and Marketing teams in a fast-paced and fun environment. Three is looking to recruit an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join our Marketing, Media and Brand legal team on a 12 month FTC, starting in March 2024. The successful candidate will develop the ability to work on a wide variety of matters while also focusing on particular strategic projects.

If you’re up for a challenge, thrive on no two days ever being the same, have excellent technical legal and drafting skills and can give practical, commercial legal advice to market-facing business teams, this role is for you.
Areas will include:
- Trading: Advising on retail, online and distance sales, promotions, competitions, special offers, advising on speed claims and unlimited claims, and on new plans and tariffs. Defending Three from ASA complaints and taking action against competitors. Advising on regulatory requirements relating to mobile and fixed line telecoms services.
- Marketing, Brand and Partnerships: Advising on campaigns across media channels and on key marketing propositions and advertising strategies. Advising on brand management, protecting key intellectual property assets and managing trade mark portfolio. Working with other brands on creative collaborations.
- Media Buying and Targeted Advertising: Negotiating contracts with media buying agencies, advising on bringing elements of programmatic media buying in-house, bringing a new targeted advertising product to market, advising on cookie policies and data protection.
- Contractual support: Business partnering on a wide range of contracts including licensing, sponsorship, co-branding, app distribution, device sourcing, creative and media agencies, data monetisation and transfer, carrier billing contracts and more.
- Devices and Accessories: Working with procurement, trading and Group to negotiate purchase, after sales and marketing terms with a range of devices and accessories providers.
- Digital Products: Supporting Three’s offers and rewards App including onboarding a range of compelling offers to our customers, providing advice on data protection consents, data flows and customer journeys, management of third party offers.
- Big Data: Providing data protection advice on monetisation of big data, including advising on legal risks associated with processing personal data and associated customer journeys data processing terms, working closely with our DPO team.
- Marketing Strategy: Collaborating on opportunities and risks associated with marketing 5G technology and the potential impact of Net Neutrality Regulations, lobbying Ofcom on customer benefits.
Take responsibility for delivering key legal projects and ensuring that risk and reward are appropriately balanced; manage contractual negotiations, develop templates and use external counsel where appropriate; provide high quality legal advice across a wide range of technology and commercial matters; successfully manage strategic legal relationships; identify new ways to do things better; help to manage the ongoing success of the team and to promote its profile both internally and externally.
Qualifications:
- Contract drafting and negotiation skills – ability to negotiate a wide variety of marketing and media agency, sponsorship, devices, accessories and digital products and service delivery contracts.
- Data and Privacy – solid understanding of GDPR and PECR and real world experience of assessing risk and coming up with solutions that marry compliance, customer experience and business requirements.
- Marketing, Branding and Intellectual Property – understanding the dynamics of marketing products and producing advertising campaigns in a regulated and highly competitive market.
Essential Requirements:
- Lawyer qualified in the UK or similar jurisdiction
- 8 years+ PQE
- Varied legal experience in technology and commercial contracting
- Ability to influence and persuade key stakeholders
- In-house experience preferred but not essential.
Preferred (additional) requirements:
- Trained and ongoing experience from a top tier law firm in the UK or similar jurisdiction
- Experience in large scale corporate or commercial arrangements
- Knowledge of products and services in the mobile telecommunications market advantageous.
