Three Bridges Recruitment is recruiting for an Assistant Accountant to join a purpose-led organisation in Edinburgh.

This is a strong development opportunity for someone who has built a foundation in finance & now wants broader exposure to month-end, financial control & technical accounting.

This isn’t a purely transactional role.

You’ll prepare journals & balance sheet reconciliations, investigate differences between systems, support statutory accounts & audit, & gradually take ownership of more complex areas as your knowledge develops.

The finance team is going through a period of positive development & change.

You’ll work closely with the Finance Manager in a collaborative environment where people are encouraged to ask questions, solve problems and improve how things are done.

As Assistant Accountant, you’ll

  • Complete allocated monthly accounting processes
  • Prepare & post month-end journals, including accruals & prepayments,
  • Produce accurate and fully supported balance sheet reconciliations
  • Reconcile information held in operational systems to the finance system
  • Investigate discrepancies and work with colleagues to resolve them promptly
  • Support the delivery of an accurate trial balance and timely financial reporting
  • Help review and improve financial processes, controls and data quality Support the Finance Manager with VAT and Gift Aid accounting and compliance
  • Assist with technical accounting matters as they arise
  • Take ownership of allocated statutory accounts working papers and supporting schedules
  • Support the preparation of statutory accounts under FRS 102 and the Charity SORP
  • Respond to external audit requests and provide supporting documentation
  • Build strong working relationships with colleagues across the organisation
  • Contribute to wider finance projects and continuous improvement initiatives

As Assistant Accountant, you’ll bring

  • Experience working within a finance or accounting environment
  • Experience that goes beyond purely transactional processing e. g journals, accruals, prepayments & balance sheet reconciliations
  • Some experience supporting month-end or the preparation of management accounts
  • Confidence working accurately with financial information and meeting deadlines
  • Good Excel skills and experience using finance systems
  • Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • The initiative to investigate issues and attempt to find a solution before escalating them
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to support colleagues
  • The ambition to broaden your experience and progress within finance
