An established and growing UK infrastructure and energy services organisation is seeking a Senior Cost Accountant to join its Finance Team in Aberdeen in a newly created role.
This is a key role supporting operational assets and projects, partnering closely with site management and commercial teams to provide high-quality cost reporting, insight and financial control.
The position reports directly to a Finance Business Partner and offers strong exposure across operations, commercial and senior stakeholders.
The Role
You will play a pivotal role in ensuring robust cost control, financial governance and high-quality reporting across assigned assets or projects.
Key responsibilities include
- Delivering accurate, timely cost reporting, variance analysis and financial insights.
- Supporting the preparation of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts.
- Producing detailed monthly variance reports and leading cost discussions in budget/forecast meetings.
- Supporting cash forecasting and contributing to monthly management accounts.
- Partnering with operational and commercial teams to anticipate and communicate financial impacts.
- Guiding and supporting non-financial managers to strengthen budgetary control.
- Ensuring strong financial controls and fully auditable cost accounting processes.
- Supporting audits and acting as a finance contact for external stakeholders where required.
- Contributing to continuous improvement of finance policies, systems and procedures.
The role involves frequent travel within Aberdeen/ Aberdeenshire and occasional travel to Teesside.
About You
You will be a Part-Qualified or Qualified Accountant (CIMA or ACCA) with strong cost accounting experience in an operational or project-based environment.
You will demonstrate
- Experience preparing financial plans, budgets and cost analysis reports.
- Strong month-end experience, including reconciliations and variance analysis.
- The ability to present financial and commercial insights clearly and confidently.
- Experience supporting and influencing non-financial stakeholders.
- Strong Excel skills and proficiency across Microsoft Office.
- Ideally, experience working with SAP.
