Senior Design Engineer - VR/30896

Currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Design Engineer on a permanent staff basis for a leading global drilling contractor based in Tullos, Aberdeen.

Reporting to the Design Engineering Manager, the Senior Design Engineer will have the following main duties and responsibilities:

• Coordinating engineering design work for rig modifications and upgrades.
• Producing 2D and 3D designs and drawings using Autodesk Design Suite (Inventor, Navisworks, AutoCAD, etc).
• Preparing design concepts for proposed modifications and FEED studies.
• Preparing project specifications and request for quotation (RFQ) packages for engineering and rig modification work scopes.
• Reviewing and controlling detailed engineering work from third party companies.
• Producing and reviewing engineering calculations.
• Supporting projects through fabrication and installation phases, including site supervision as required.
• Providing fleetwide onshore technical support, including responding to information requests for design documentation for the company’s vessels.
• Conducting offshore and shipyard visits and surveys.
• Carrying out project planning activities, including producing and maintaining project schedules.
• Preparing submissions for Class (DNV), Flag State and other authorities as required.
• Ensuring drawings are maintained and revised, as necessary, following rig modifications.
• Providing technical checking and approval of drawings, ensuring compliance with relevant standards.

Experience/Qualifications:

Essential:

• An engineering degree qualification in a relevant discipline (Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, etc).
• Previous experience in a similar Senior Design Engineer type role directly within the North Sea Oil & Gas industry.
• Experience with engineering design in the offshore or shipping industries.
• Experience with 3D design work including use of point clouds (laser scans) for engineering design purposes.
• Experience with AutoCAD and Inventor.

Desirable:

• MEng Engineering degree qualification.
• Experience with drilling rig design scopes.
• Onsite project engineering experience.
• Project management experience.
• Experience with Microsoft Project.
• Experience with STAAD and Mathcad software.
